As regards tailgating big trucks on motorways, I once towed a caravan down the M4 to Bristol and seemed to get caught up in an air void behind an artic. Weirdest thing was that I took my foot of the throttle to get a bit of distance between us but continued to get sucked along behind it. We were travelling up a slight gradient at the time and this effect continued for about a mile before I eventually fell out of its zone of influence.
