Well im finally back mobile again in the Xantia :)

The break pipe was fitted today on the O/S/R and all seemed fine....

After a week or so of LHM leaking i was horrfied to see shortly after leaving the garage my STOP light flicker on as i left a junction....of course it was dark and rush hour Liverpool traffic but a quick fumble for my torch and a call to the garage revealed nothing more than a mechanic who'd forgotten to top back up the LHM after doing the pipe.....Its always the simple stuff that gets forgotten

Apart from the bits and bobs i still need to get done, i am researching how to clean all the rust off the rear underside components on mine and get them clean, black and rust proofed again. The rear brake pipe only started leaking through rust

Soon be dry and sunny again......I wish :)

Excellent news Vince but bad of the garage to forget to top up the LHM

Well, our winters tend to be cool and dry these days and often sunny so what's the problem?

One good thing about winter is that it's always followed by spring and get Christmas out of the way and spring is not far off :D

(it's the optimist in me..)

Well you could pressure wash the whole rear end, then use some rust treater and then waxoyl the lot or paint it up..

Would be best if you had an outdoors ramp to do that kind of thing though but for obvious reasons most places dont...

Your right, I could do with an outside ramp.

My plan of action is to get my drill and wire wheel and strip off as much rust as i can. Then go to Frost restorations who are near to me and get some good brush on anti rust treatment, let that dry then smooth black hammerite the bits that need doing.

A new spare wheel well is a must on the list of urgent things to get done, which will be treated to the same level of treatment before being fitted onto the car.

Once done then the back end should be looking very tidy with new brake backplates on also. Finally a new set of rear spheres should finish the job off

I will get that stuff done on those sunny days Jim is predicting....hope your right 8)

Its a pity i dont have any holidays left at work or id book a day off, get the car into the garage next door to the shop, borrow a 4 post lift and do it all in one day  If i cant get it done this side of new year then i will do that in January

Well a busy day of tinkering has seen a couple of long standing jobs done

I took the car into work today after giving it a thorough wash and spruce up on sunday

As i planned i borrowed a 4 hour spot on a 4 post ramp in the garage next door and armed with a toobox and my "kit box" of paints and cleaners etc i fitted a new set of Citroen rear brake backplates (customising one to accomodate the re routed rear abs sensor), greased up the rear height corrector and then derusted and smooth black hammerited the sump, front subframe, front track arms, rear trailing arms, rear anti roll bar, rear hydraulic lines, and rear subframe area.

These are jobs i have wanted to get done for a while now so am best pleased they have been done ready for the winter weather ahead.

After spending literally about 5 minutes customising the rear backplate on the O/S/R to clear the rear abs sensor wire, im baffled to know why Citroen didnt choose to do this from the factory? On the O/S/ R at least now the abs sensor should be able to be changed in about 30 minutes with the majority of that being cutting out the old one.

With the above done however i caught a bit of "Dave-itis"(you finish one job for another to appear) I now have a very tinny resonance coming from the exhaust system at 1500rpm. Probably a heat sheild that has been disturbed when i was checking the centre exhaust pipe condition.....Never mind, i will ask the guys to get it back on the ramp tomorrow and check it out.

My overal aim is to get the underside of the car looking very tidy....the rear spheres have all seen better days so once they are done and are looking green again, and a new spare wheel well fitted and painted, I will post some pics of how im getting on. The spheres are the only rusty looking bits left

Also thanks to Richard :P i have ordered some pure yellow H1 bulbs from Malaysia via ebay for my headlamp conversion to the french look....once they arrive and are fitted i will order some others for the front fogs and revert the front fog lenses back to white again using the fog surround clips kindly donated to me :)

Happy motoring all

Damn it Vince, just when i think a xantia cant get any cleaner! :o
You just need that leather interior now.... You know you want one!

Well on the Xm, im slowly tipping the balance, hopefully the Dave-itis
wont flare up again! Yesterday i swapped the final leather seat, next priority is to make the windows work

Looking forward to seeing your VSX next year, preferably parked a long way away from my car though!

Dave i might battle valiantly to keep it clean, but TBH Jims red Activa, Gareth's Activa (The one that was Jim's) and a couple of others at the National Rally made mine look untidy  And truth be told Richards gold VSX makes everyone want to go home and try harder next year

Its a pity the paint damage on mine affects some of the biggest panels....I wont get it painted as its not worth it really to get a good job that is....but it keep me out of trouble....

As for leather...oh yes....that would be a dream come true and set the car off a treat....i can still feel the cloudlike feel in my memory after sitting in Richards VSX with Series 2 leather in it.....awesome 8)

I wouldnt mind a spin in the XM once its done.....they are meant to ride head and shoulders above the Xantias :)
