Re: Vince's VSX - For Sale....XM coming soon...
Well the time has come to make a big decision....to sell the Xantia on for a new project
Weve been through alot the Xantia and our family and have many happy memories of trips taken together, a truly amazing car which has served us very well
That said, what happens with me is i get bored once a car has come to the end of its "project life" and requires little else but the occasional wash and start thinking "you only live once and so many cars i havent owned yet" so what else can i get and mess about with
The next car to add to my history of fixer uppers will be a series 1 XM. Its been decided and Steve (Trainman) and myself will be taking a trip over to Paul's (Citroenxm) on the 6th of July to do the deal and bring it home. Its at times like these when forums and clubs come into their own. People offer honest cars, their help and good advice, and Paul and Steve have been great so far in helping me make this purchase possible
Am i making the right decision selling the Xantia? No, but im borrowing the money to buy the XM from a friend and so will need to pay him back with the proceeds.
The Xantia will be dolled up to the nines ready for a new owner...i started on the front passenger side wing and door this evening and wet sanded out some scratches then machined it back up again. The plan is to go round the whole car one panel at a time to clean her up nice. It wont be 100% perfect as there are a few marks that wont come out, but its an old car after all and the paint has been through alot.
Anyway, if you know anyone who wants a Xantia TD....(Economical and still a "veg virgin") then please point them my way

Whoever buys your TD VSX will be a very lucky new owner, its excellent
Good luck with your new project, it was only a matter of time before you took the plunge for an XM, a very sensible option too, the 2.1TD manuals are great. Im looking forward to seeing how it turns out, its a bit of an unusual colour and will no doubt look excellent.

Re: Vince's VSX - SOLD....XM coming soon...
Well, not a great deal has been happening car wise recently....i havent driven the Xantia much as we havent been anywhere really
e
Originally Activa Mike had said he was buying the Xantia, but pulled out of the sale last week...but...Les off here came up to see the car last saturday morning and said he also wanted it. A subsequent chat has ensued and it looks like Les will be the new owner at the end of July
Paul also contacted me yesterday and due to illness he is struggling to get the XM ready for next friday's collection date, so we have agreed to put this back a week to Friday the 13th ...its a good job in not superstitious or you'd think this was a sign I dont however believe in "signs" or any of that baloney. It sucks having to wait another week, but luckily Steve again saves the day and is still able to run me over to Angelsey in the morning on that day before he goes to work in the afternoon....im covering costs of course but still a big THANKYOU is due there
Well Les wants to have another look at the car next saturday as it was in a dark car park that he saw it last saturday so i best make sure its presentable for then. I still havent decided on the number plate retention....It looks like its going to go with the car unless my mate (who bought it for me as a wedding gift nearly 8 years ago) objects...either way im going to jump onto the DVLA now before i set off for work and check on timescales for plate swaps and also getting the XM off SORN and back onto the tax system again.

Re: Vince's VSX - SOLD....XM coming soon...
Generally it takes about three weeks to get it all sorted, if you're putting the plate onto retention it speeds it up by about a week, if you can trust the bloke you're selling it to as a genuine friend who won't let you down/cause grief with Gatso's and the like you could let him have the car then transfer the plate before or after the sale and wait for the new V5 in due course.vince wrote:either way im going to jump onto the DVLA now before i set off for work and check on timescales for plate swaps and also getting the XM off SORN and back onto the tax system again.

Re: Vince's VSX - SOLD....XM coming soon...
Lol...i thought you said it was economical
Thanks Rich....the way things are looking timewise, i think the plate will go with the car...i will miss it like hell as it means alot to me being a wedding gift and ive had it so long, but time and money are starting to stack up against me and i plan on keeping the XM for a long while providing i can keep up with the running costs
The biggest hassle im having still is with insurance companies....Once the XM is home i need to take time out to make some calls and find the cheapest way out of the Xantia policy and get the XM insured and taxed. That way the Xantia can move on and i can move on too. XM insurance is cheap enough, its paying both at once thats not I dont want to have to change the SORN notice over to me as its more paperwork....it would be easier to be able to insure it and tax it straight away.
Changing cars is hard bloody work....and when you throw a cherished plate in too it gets even harder....paperwork wise and cost wise
As Steve says, it will all be worth it in the end...or at least it better be

Re: Vince's VSX - SOLD....XM coming soon...
For the £80 transfer it's got to be something you keep Vince as there's a lot
of memories attached with it so it's more than just vanity for you like it may
be for other people. It's nice you get a daily reminder of your best pal's gift
on your wedding day! I bought a Xantia with a CAZ plate specifically for the
number* for a present to give my sister Caroline and it's worn proudly on her C4
and is something she loves immensely. Surely the buyer. Les will understand
you wanting to keep hold of it and can await the transfer to the original age
related reg?
Is the Xm young enough for the plate - I have the idea it's a J or a K plater?
OK. It helped the car was a very early VSX 2.0i 16v! lol

Re: Vince's VSX - SOLD....XM coming soon...
I appreciate the comments guys but it cant go onto the XM as its a K reg....
Also the £105 retention fee would pay for me to get it up and running on the insurance...
Im a bit snookered on this one....i cant really justify the £105 just to keep it in the shed. If it was going onto the XM it would be a no brainer...£80 job done
