Perhaps that its Dommo? It looks a tad like a brake master cylinder shape face that you can see...wont be that though but ABS related?...perhaps
Just watched Boyd Coddington's Reece's cadillac he designed and built for them.....makes me want to go and play with the car....too dark now though
I think i need whitewalls back

Well, finally i got round to changing my rocker cover over again for a nice new shiny one
Ive degreased every plastic piece under the bonnet and painted a few bits silver that needed it and black that needed that. Ill wait until tomorrow for the paints to dry and then with a fresh coat of plastic / rubber treatment the engine bay should be back to its former glory.....clean and shiny again.
Linda has just booked us a weekend away in London for her 40th in June so i want the car to be tiptop for the trip to our beloved capital city
If i get chance ill take it to work one day soon and get it checked over and re greased underneath on the ramp next door

Lol I didnt know I was known for wearing a cap, its usually because I've left early for a show and i havent brushed my hair
They didnt say anything about the xantia, but they aren't car people so they probably dont know anything about Citroens
I dont understand non car people...
Kev the thing is even if I did sell the xantia, I wouldn't lose my passion for citroens, that started when I was a kid and has never gone away even when ive owned non citroen cars. I'm going to the ICCCR next year in harrogate for sure.

Well, i figure its time to get back into the fray show wise now that work is getting easier somewhat.......
Firstly, ive finished working in Liverpool now after 2 years and am coming back home to GSF Trafford Park starting tomorrow
This means hopefully that i will have more time and energy to pour into life and leisure as i have been running on empty for a long while now which has manifested itself into a skin condition similar to having nettle stings all over. Not too unslightly, but certainly irritating and itchy
Anyway, Im off to Barcelona next friday for a well earned week long rest with Linda and the kids and then back to business here....
Im looking forward to the rally in september which i fully intend on attending in the Xantia and am looking to come down saturday and camp over ready for the sunday
Its been so long since ive been to a show.
Car wise id noticed a decrease in braking efficiency recently and also my handbrake was very poor in operation. I figured on my last full day in Liverpool (friday just gone) id bring the car in and get it on the ramp next door and find out whats wrong......As with all good plans we had a busier than normal day so i didnt get chance to get near the car BUT luckily Rob (one of the mechanics next door) didnt have much on so i wandered in late afternoon to find him deep into diagnosis and cure work on it.
The result was the N/S caliper handbrake mechanism (beneath the rubber gaitor) was rusted badly and the handbrake was not releasing fully
The rubber boot had filled up with water and made a mess so that was cleaned up, de rusted and freed back off and now works again
The O/S caliper was also not operating fully under normal braking so too was cleaned up and freed off so braking is back to good levels and the handbrake is spot on again
I think the problem lies in the car not getting driven much, so i will be taking it out more and giving it a workout more often.
Currently im still finding myself watching more and more videos and images of old Citroens, in particular GS's and Dyane's, and i have a burning desire for a mint GS
The problem is, unless i win some money somehow...a desire it will remain. Ive even thought of "if i sell the Xantia then i will be able to pick up a ropey Dyane and mess around with that" but thats unlikely to happen....its frustrating the life out of me as im such a classic car fan (especially 70's cars) that i want to be able to step out into the drive and have an older Citroen to play with and love.
Never mind....im going to check my lottery tickets for last night

I do love the older stuff myself but dread the possibility of a money pit with welding/paintwork etc , I'm loving my Zx16v and everytime I take it out it puts a smile on my face and knowing I've got a car with no serious issues only regular upkeep is great , I seiously want another Bx16v but the thoughts of what you could spend getting one up to the standard of my Zx is a little off putting ,

I can imagine your very much looking forward toworking closer to home
A dyanne is getting a rare car now, I rarely see them for sale but if they are anything like the 2CV they will be appreciating, could be a good investment!
A GS even more so, though they do like to rust a bit. There is a stunning one for sale on car and classic at the moment, I have seen it and its as good as it looks in the pictures.
Good to hear you will be at the next CCC show, the CXM/Xantia rally? Should be a good one

Spooky Chris that you should say Dyane's are getting few and far between.....i just took Jack to the doctors in Oldham about an hour ago and saw a beige one on the way back
Ive seen the GS on car and classic...it looks stunning
Mark, i know what you mean with having a car that just needs regular maintenance.....my Xantia is like that but its the character and quirk of the old stuff that the new stuff just cant replicate...sometimes that makes the costs worthwhile

if you want to learn wet sanding grab your self a scrap panel from local bodyshop and have a go! It isnt the black art many would have you think! Its more than possible to hand polish 1200grit wet sanding out, its Much easier by machine, but is easily do able!

Thanks for the interest guys....
Truth be known ive not been doing much on that front, I decided to put the idea on hold until i moved back to manchester (which is tomorrow) as i just didnt have the energy to work in Liverpool then drive back and then clean up cars, I realised this whilst doing a BMWe39 and being knackered after one evening. So now that im going to have an extra 2 hours a day free then im going to get on with it. After my holiday of course

Well.....all is not so great on the Xantia front
Ive been away since last friday on holiday in Barcelona with Linda and the kids....a great holiday and well needed mental break to repair my brain cells
Unfortunately, last thursday, a day before going away me and the Xantia were involved in a crash on the M60 motorway....
Simply put...traffic was flowing around 50mph and someone up front anchored on.....naturally the Xantia handled this with ease and stopped on a sixpence as usual...but the KIA Ceed following me didnt fare so well and ploughed into the back of me at between 30 and 50mph
The Xantia came off the better and is still driveable but the Kia's front end suffered heavy damage.
The important thing is apart from a little whiplash on my part no-one was seriously hurt and we exchanged details.
The problem i now face is there is a possibility the Xantia will be written off as it seems the rear valance behind the bumper has taken quite a whack and now the tailgate doesnt line up against the rear wings and takes a bit of a slam to get it to latch.
Ive told the bodyshop guys (they are inspecting it tomorrow) that id like it repaired if possible as the rest of the car is in fine condition and utterly reliable, but i have to face the fact that it wont be booked very high and if it needs jigging then its probably game over.
If so then it will be a sad end to a great example Xantia....i guess tomorrow will tell me more

Bad luck Vince, glad you are OK.
Remember hat you are not claiming off your insurance, but the 3rd party's - you have the right to be put back where you were, this means repair of the car, or replacement with equivalent. Given what you've put into your car, don't be fobbed off with £300 - tell them you want it repaired, and stand your ground!
