Kerbweight of a Xantia 1.9TD

Post by XantiaMan »

Today i was at a gravel pit installing a CC and decided to use their weighbridge (after asking first!)

The book figure for most Xantia's is around 1300kg, which is hefty to say the least.

My car had a quarter of a tank of fuel, about 15kg of work's stuff inside but apart from that, is a typical example.

The answer is = 1360kg!!! So its no wonder that with 2 passengers, plus in our case, a baby, a dog, plus a full up boot, you are looking at 1600kg plus depending on how much fuel you have, and there was me wondering why the car felt sluggish with 4 passengers and a full tank!

I can actually appreiciate the hard work the little 1.9 engine has to do now, and to get close to 50mpg with nippy performance when needed with refinement i couldnt ask any more from it!

Cars are gaining in weight, for every new model or revision.
Thats the cost of sound proofing and collision safety - both passive and active parts.

Most people would agree that the earlier CX model was a huge car, but the Xantia is in fact a car the same size and weight.

I was just looking at a CX yesterday in the workshop where I take mine and it certainly looks enormous - seems twice the length of the C5.
I'm sorely tempted - it is for sale for £800. Couple of rust spots need attention.

Don't know what I would do with it apart from throw money at it but it is a very good looking car, probably the best they have made IMO.

Looked at one myself. It is sooo Citroen...........stunning!! It was only the thought of the wallet taking a beating and the welder coming out that held me back.

Only on the outside :-).

We owned one for 8 years. The CX saloon is like Dr Who's Tardis, only in reverse - it's far bigger on the outside than on the inside!
