I think it will be OK - I don't know of anything obvious - although the handbrake is always a trial. It might need a new primary cable - which is a bit of a problem as the passenger seat is currently stuck, which makes getting to the motor box a bit tricky... Now we have got over the engine issues, it is working out to be a good car!

307 may well need some attention from the MIG either this year or next - that one is due up shortly!!

I must organise cars that have MOTs in the summer, when at least it's slightly warmer and the evenings are light; even if it still nearly always rains!!

Same here both my Saxo and Ka fall due in the middle of winter...

C4 now ticketed for another year. Looks like it needed a new OSF CV joint clip. Funnily enough I thought about it only last week - I changed the other side 18 months ago, and I wondered how the OS was fairing...got distracted by a pork pie or something before I got to look at it though...!

Got to look at the rear brakes on the 307 tomorrow - the recent snow and floods has caused them to seize up, and by the noises it was making last night, may well now need a new set of pads. Do'h... if the new wheel bearing and exhaust mount have arrived I can fit them too. Then just the spring and strut top bearing to attend to, and new front tyres, and it too can go before the MOT man.

The 307 looks like a good full day's work but for another year of MOT it will be well worth it...

Very nearly in the "I need a new car" camp this morning !

Firmly in the need a new car camp this evening Stripped the rear brakes and put new pads in - the slides on the NS were seized in, hence it wrecking the inboard pad I think. As I jacked the OS it sounded a bit crunchy and didn't look too clever. Did the brakes anyway, then had a look at the sill with the 'Corrosion assessment tool' aka big screwdriver. It's not pretty....

The inner inch or so of the sill has dissolved, almost all the way from the rear wheel arch to the B pillar, and the inner sill is gone too just above the jacking point. It would be a big job to repair it properly, and given that it needs a pile of other work, I will be changing its appointment with the MOT man to one with the scrap man

Ah crap, sorry to hear this Richard.

As I was reading I had a strong sense of Deja-Vu - reminds me very strongly of what happened with the Silver Xantia V6!!

One reason I never use the sill jacking points on any car ever since - I'm much happier to jack up and put flat axle stands under the suspension chassis than the sills where a jack might reveal things that are best left unseen and undisturbed!

Good luck on the car hunt - it's never a good thing having to find another car at such short notice, especially second hand where you might be tempted to buy something that isn't quite up to snuff due to expediency and time pressure!

The jacking didn't kill it - it just gave the game away - had I not jacked it this week, the MOT man would have had a field day poking his CAT through it in a couple of weeks. Much the same failure as the Xsara Picassos suffer - it has rotted from the inside out; the underseal on the sill was still pristine; just very soft....

But if the MOT man couldn't see any outward appearance of rust, why would he have been poking at it forcefully with his screwdriver ?

For all you know that rust was there at the last MOT as well, but it just hadn't been discovered yet. That kind of rot doesn't come out of nowhere overnight.

I'm just saying if it had have been discovered after the MOT instead of just before it it would have at least given you a bit more time to find a replacement.

just a mention, all this talk of MOT's, that having spent a considerable amount of time checking tyre costs as part of my own rather costly MOT this year, Asda [of all people] seem to be unbeatable.

I had good news, neither spannering nor welding required (not even an Advisory), but four tyres were: a fail on one corner and advisories on the other three, making it easily the most expensive one ever (£195 in all), ouch! ....I was of course aware they were low tho' and did put something half decent on the front (rears are s/h) had been holding out on them for the ticket to be due

Ha ha, that's another world of pain!

I think this is the straw that breaks the camel's back... it needs a fair amount of other work - and I was out in it this afternoon, and there is a whirring noise when the clutch is not pressed that I haven't heard before, and suggests that the clutch might be about to throw in the towel as well.

I think a 5st MK2 Picasso is on the cards - they are down in price now. I will use the old Picasso for work and put another 30k on it over the next couple of years.
