Yes, it is threaded. I wondered if anyone else here had encountered the same - could it be LPG? I rather doubt it but haven't ever worked with an LPG system.

It could be - worth a check of the rating plate to make sure it's 20mbar nat gas!

It's probably 1/8th or 1/4 BSP - you should be able to get a sleeve adaptor threaded both ends that will allow you you screw in the hose; although you may need a second adaptor if the thread in the hose is not the same. If it's BSP then it should seal on a washer, but not sure there will be anywhere to put on - a good few turns of PTFE tape around the end should make it seal against the back nut, just check with soapy water it's gas tight!

Job on hold for the moment. Multiple conflicting crises - my boiler leaking lie a sieve this morning, can't get through to housing association, eldest daughter's kitchen flooded and a nightmare at work, whole estate without power for two days. Bit of a backlog

You have my sympathy, especially on the boiler front!!

Fixed daughter's leak, there was no sign of the heating engineer. Turned the boiler on with a view to topping up the water as it leaked out - no leaks!
Been running all night and is fine (ish, after a repair a couple of weeks ago).
Back to youngest daughters work.

If the boiler has lost the water, then good chance the expansion vessel is flat, and the water has expanded and lifted the relief valve; once it cools down, there will not be enough water again....

OK up to now. Ran until about 01:00 then from 05:00 to 08:00 and has been on since about 17:00, no signs of leaks. No sign of engineer either.

Changed the battery on my Sister's C4 Pic this afternoon - more awkward than ours, as it has a charge monitor. Took me ages to figure out how to disconnect the connector on the bottom of the unit; not a type I have come across before - it has a yellow clip that needs to be slid down, then then a small screwdriver to lift the top part of the clip before it will come apart - they don't want it to come adrift by itself!! Then the rear terminal has got a bolt in it, rather than clip on - it's well buried under the scuttle, and the way it was set up the bolt was so close to the battery I couldn't get a socket on it, so it had to be extracted with an open ended spanner 1/2 a flat at a time, left handed (which I'm not!). Was able to rotate it a bit when I put it back to allow a socket on. Let's hope that fixes the neutral selection problem!

If you don't already have some Richard, then Aldi and Lidle frequently have sets of 5 combination spanners with the rings being ratcheting. Around a tenner.
I don't use mine often but they are a godsend in cases like yours above.
Dismantled a steel wheelchair ramp at my daughter's new house last weekend and would have had great difficulty without them, would have taken around five times as long at 1/5 turn at a time. Lots of very tight and inaccessible nuts & bolts.

Our boiler leaking again. It can stay the way until after Christmas when they failed to turn up two days running and left no message as to why.

Incidentally, I managed a better photo of the curious coupling.

The only adapter I have found is from B.E.S. and is a line coupling, not confident that this is what is needed.
I think we are capitulating and getting British Gas to ruin it and service the boiler at the same time.


Ripped the kitchen out today and the main stop tap is a mangled wreck

Had to refit all the upstairs doors (new ones) bodged very badly so none of them actually closed and none have catches on, no lock on the bathroom one either.

I'm sure one or the other have them now- been to both over the weekend but not sure where I spotted them.

I've got a set of ratchet spanners, and yes, very useful - but not in this case, where the nut was so close to the edge of the battery that there was no clearance for even a socket, let alone the bulky head of a ratchet spanner!!

Is that nut loose on the pipe, Steve? In which case it needs the correct fitting to seal against the flare on the pipe - can't think what it would be called.... maybe ask the maker of the cooker, but then they'll probably just reply that they can't tell you anything if you are not Gas Safe.

Can't say I've ever come across that fitting before either - though it's unusual for me to be touching anything less than 30 or 40 years old!
