Good price for a starter, let's hope it proves to be a bargain.

Hmmmm, perhaps just missing out on that Coupe de Ville on "Scottish eBay" was a blessing in disguise.

If you ever want a car delivered from down here - you only have to ask (& make a sensible contribution towards expenses)

That's not so bad then Richard... Your neck of the woods certainly seems to be very hard on cars... They must use a lot of salt up there...

Salt? Enough to crystalise out on the paintwork some times... Usually in use from about August until July

Chip butty? No where near enough grease.... Pizza Crunch (fold pizza in half, batter, and deep fry) :-D

We used to live on the Isle of Wight - they have their own reg identifier (used to be DL before 2001 plate change, and is now HW) - many 2nd hand sales make / made a virtue of this, but all it meant was it had never been on a decent run in its life, and it was probably rusty (although we lived almost in the centre, no where is more than 10 miles from the sea, and we used to get salt spray on the windows)!!

RichardW wrote: 20 Jun 2017, 07:49 I forgot... it also needs a new windscreen; the NSR wheel bearing is little noisy (despite being replaced with the disc only last year); and the top mount on the NSR damper is knocking a bit (need to get another one from the breakers to fix that as I did for the OS when it finally (and noisily!) fell apart totally.

Isn't this the bearing I recall you posting about, where you went for a quality item to save replacing it again in a year?

Nah, that was a front one on the C4 - this was fitted as part of a new set of rear discs - which were Brembo so the bearing should have been OK, but seemingly not....

The best place, it seems, to buy a car is Somerset and the inland south-west generally... They sure do last well down that way...

Never buy a car that's lived near the sea...

£55 starter has arrived - it looks the part, casting on the end looks reasonable. Will see how it goes when i get it in - not for a couple of weeks as we are of on holiday on Sunday. Going a bit out of the way in Northern Portugal - be on the look out for any old interesting stuff!

Not driving there, but will be driving there IYSWIM!! 1600 miles from here - whilst I wouldn't mind that, doing it with 2 small children who are incapable of not talking continuously at the tops of their voices would be trying to say the least!

Just imagine how many times you'd hear 'Are we there yet?' on a trip like that
