I must have, at present, more than half the cars (+ 4 4x4's, 2 vans & a minibus) I've ever owned. Unlike Mickeymoon, I've never learned how to get rid of them (unless written-off or scrapped) AND, believe it or not, I hate buying them, something I actually find quite difficult (but have my eye on another Cadillac on THAT auction site & hope to get a (look at) ZX in Exeter on Saturday)

I'd say the majority of mine were eBay purchases, in the years eBay was generally moron free - and scrap metal prices were low too! I once bought a Saab 900 T16 4-door (ugly beast, 1984) with MOT and a recon gearbox for £67.. again, it was easy enough to get rid of them on eBay as it wasn't populated by cretins back then. The shortest time I ever owned a car was around 3 hours (MK5 escort) and the longest would be the Berlingo at 7 years and counting

That's on average 7 and a half cars a year, how do you find the time ? I find finding, buying and getting rid of cars a huge pain in the backside, I'd rather go to the dentist! I certainly wouldn't do it for fun...

At the time I was working weird shifts and had plenty of free time, and a decent sized off-road car park of my own. It was more of a hobby and entertainment than motoring. Here between ... 2001 and 2004, older cars were just so cheap. I paid £140 for a running Golf GTi 8v with MOT, another Saab with MOT cost me £161, my first XM, a mint 2.1 SD - £450..

Getting rid was easy too. Stick it on ebay with a sensible BIN and 9/10 times there'd be an Eastern European with cash waiting. Sometimes even one who'd bought a car from me before.

I agree though. Now buying and selling is a total pain in the arse. I'll be replacing both mine and my wife's cars later in the year but I know what I want and they are plentiful, so I'll bear it two more times for now!

Indeed it it which is why I hardly ever sell anything these days, not least cars...

Cars I'll only buy from well-known forum members now and I'd rather give them away or let them go for a very small amount to forum members or friends than go through the horrors of selling...

Front discs and pads, OS wheel bearing and bottom ball joint to be fitted on the C4 tomorrow; and the rear brakes need a bit shaving off the bracket or something on the 307 as they catch a bit when the disc heats up. Oil and filter ordered for the 307 - cambelt, water pump, thermostat, fuel filter, air filter, pollen filter to do soon. It's got a bit of an oil leak from the outlet flange on the turbo - the pipe was probably off when the injector seals were done - perhaps the o ring is split (or missing!) as it's a bit floppy even though the bolt is tight...need to get it off and have a look. Been thinking the 307 needs a new windscreen as it is very chipped and scratched - and now I see it has a big crack in it under the wipers, so that definitely needs doing too. Need to put the C4 on the Diagbox and check / adjust the handbrake - if this doesn't work then I think it needs a new primary cable (not too bad, but the front passenger seat has to come out to get to the motor end).

Oh, and I've got to take the front off the dishwasher and mop the water out that has leaked past the door seal; hopefully the seal just needs a clean...

Fixed the dishwasher...failed on the car at the first hurdle - can't shift the disc! Tried 'driving' it against the brakes but it held firm. I see on you tube vids of people using bolts through the caliper fixing holes to push them off; bolts look to be M12, so could only get M10 through and then it might be tight on the thread; ruining the thread in the hub would rather spoil the day! Any other ideas? Currently thinking I will take it to the garage and let them deal with it. No doubt on a lift you can swing two hammers against the back of the disc and it will pop off; or he's probably got a big hydraulic puller that will see if off.

Those discs are well fixed Richard... I've had some battles with them on XMs and Xantias but old faithful 4lb club hammer has always done the trick - eventually... Had to get really angry with some of them before they'd shift...

I've heard of cases where the disc has been smashed off in pieces from being hit so hard...

What about heating it?
