I've been lucky so far with both my UK based cars that their MOT's have been due July/August - perfect timing for getting work done in the summer to get them ready! =D>

Of course in New Zealand a warrant of fitness is due every 6 months for cars older than 3 years, but it least it wasn't snow and ice if I needed to do any work in the winter. :lol: Torrential rain and strong winds though sometimes!

Never realised the WOF was 6-monthly in NZ Simon...

A good idea methinks and something we ought to think about here rather than the proposed two-yearly MOT. A lot can happen to a car in the course of a year... Too much in the case of a non-caring owner...

Is the WOF simpler given its frequency?

No it's exactly the same as an MOT in scope. Yearly for new cars then 6 monthly for cars over 3 years old. At least it still was in 2009 which is when I last owned a car there!

It used to annoy me that it was so often but on the other hand when I came here yearly for an old car seems like a lot could go wrong in that time!

2 yearly is an EU thing - HMG has resisted so far, and given the mammoth other things to sort out in the next couple of years, unlikely to be on the agenda!

On the 307 front, MOT site is reporting a pass :) Just advisories on the front wishbone bushes - first noted at 68k, now on 124k! TBH they don't look all that great, they are sort of delaminating from the arm, so I think replacement is probably on the cards later in the year. It's a bit of PITA though, as the bolts have puny TORX fittings on the top, so my guess is they will need to be cut off. The front one is also right under the driveshaft - I think the official procedure is to remove the shaft, but I'd have thought there would be enough room to get it out and in with the hub / shaft pushed right forward. There's also not enough downwards play to get the BJ taper out of the arm, so you have to unbolt the hub from the strut to lift it out of the arm. All good fun.... :roll:

That almost sounds like 407 wishbones Richard... From experience it's painful and you end up wondering why on earth they were ever designed like that...

Hope the 307 ones are a bit easier ;)

Changed over all the locking wheel bolts on both cars finally. Been meaning to do it for ages, but never got around to it - then when I was doing the brakes on the 307 last weekend, one of them slipped on doing up, so I decided time was time. I couldn't shift the one that slipped with a breaker bar, but there was just enough to get purchase on it using Mandrake's impact driver (which has been resting in my garage since the failed bottom ball joint episode). On the NS might as well remove the hub and shaft - it's going to fall out the gearbox anyway!

Seemingly I don't have enough tools...! Went to fit the towel rail in the new bathroom, but the hex in the pipe connectors was bigger than my 10mm allen key, but smaller than my radiator key (of which I have 2), and I had nothing else of the right hex size, D'oh! Eventually found a file that was the right width to go in across a couple of the points and allowed me to tighten it up. No such thing as a 5 minute job.....!

'Cos I'm a bit of numbers saddo.... 25 years today since I passed my driving test! Where did that go???? 8 cars (me) 4 cars (her), close on 1/2 million miles, 2 clutches, gawd knows how many oil / filter / air filter / fuel filter changes, 2 prangs (both in the first 6 months of driving).

The next 25 years? Who knows!!!

Sat my driving test on December 12th 1990 on my 15th birthday so a bit over 26 years driving for me, sorry Richard. :lol: :twisted:

Two accidents in the first couple of years, both in my GS - one my fault, fishtailing into a ditch on a metal road in the country, the other not my fault, head on collision with someone who pulled out in front of me into the middle of a country road and stopped dead like a deer in headlights! #-o No accidents since then.

I've also owned 8 cars, roughly in this order (some of them overlapped each other and I can't remember exactly when I bought and disposed of some of them!)

5 of the 8 are Citroen's so I think that puts me in good standing. (For the insane asylum :rofl2: )

8 Petrols, no Diesels. One Turbo. 5 manuals and 3 automatics!

Clutches - 0 (!) Radiators 1. Timing belts changed 2, timing belts snapped 0. Cars with timing chains instead of belts 2. Cars eaten by the rust monster 4.

Miles ? I haven't a clue, but unlikely to be anywhere near as high as yours! :mrgreen:
