Re: Citrojim's AX, Pixo, C3, Running and Cycling Tales
On Tuesday I was rather delighted to be able to reasonably successfully drive down to Somerset. I was a bit groggy when I arrived at StickyFinger Towers but I'd made it! A bit of a triumph for me, even if I was driving a Citroen
Polly performed splendidly She really is a great car
A run down to visit the East Somerset Railway sorted me out a treat
It's all looking good down there..
The main reason for the trip was to see Alasdair and accompany him to look at this Sinker...
A proper barn find, and as reported by Alasdair in his blog, a true gem! It's in remarkably good nick under all that patina of dust and dirt..
We soon had it up and running and everything is functional... The LHM is bright green and it runs like a clock on ten year-old diesel
A definite viable project for this rare survivor and if I had space in my life it would be with me... I love Sinkers
I will be heavily involved in its recommissioning I expect Hope so!
I hugely enjoyed the trip there and back in Alasdair's Activa - a lovely place to be a passenger, albeit on the wrong side!!!
I was absolutely spannered by the end of the day so overnighted. I left for home at 02:45 and was waiting outside my local Tesco to do my shopping at 05:45
A most successful and pleasurable trip, not only to see Alasdair and find a true treasure sitting in a practically derelict garage but also that I could do the journey there and back and spend a busy day with no apparent ill effects...
Well on the road to recovery I think
Thanks Alasdair for a truly great day and tolerating me sitting in the Activa passenger seat for several hours Take it from me, you're a top driver

Love it
Something else I love I've just renewed Polly's tax for the year...
I'm still staggered this car is free of VED...
Polly's definitely a keeper... If only she was MoT-free too. That would be perfection!

Not the only one Jim. Any petrol or diesel car registered between 1st March 2001 and 31st of March 2017 with CO2 emission up to 100g/km qualifies currently for zero vehicle tax.
Some surprising ones perhaps in the Evans Halshaw top 10. https://www.evanshalshaw.com/blog/used- ... -road-tax/

I asked at the Post Office, apparently I cannot send the 65 year old Ex East German lady shot putter even by Parcel Force....so she is tied up in my garage till you next come down (feeding her Kentucky Fried Chicken, FlapJacks and raw eggs as requested)CitroJim wrote: ↑11 Jul 2024, 18:33It's in the post

In all seriousness Alasdair, the trip to yours did me a world of good and it seems I'm not ready for the scrapheap just yet
I've recommenced serious duathlon training and looking to enter this one:
https://www.atwevents.co.uk/e/atw-hertf ... hlon-10309
And I'll be in a new age group and thus, being at the 'young' end, more competitive!

Absolutely Alasdair, it was a great day out for us both Let's not leave it too long before we do anotherStickyfinger wrote: ↑13 Jul 2024, 06:33 Guess how much good it did me ......... 6 hours "away" from home for me is as you know normally only a yearly event.
Today I signed up for the Hertfordshire and Middlesex Duathlon
https://www.atwevents.co.uk/e/atw-hertf ... hlon-10309
I'll be competing in the sprint event and it'll be my first competitive event in my new age group It'll be a definite age-group PB
And as Tom Simpson said when he ordered a brand-new top of the range Mercedes just before he started the 1967 Tour de France: 'It'll give me something to aim at...'
Sadly for Tom that was his last Tour; he died on Mon Ventoux As I'm not climbing that particular mountain and nor taking amphetamines washed down with brandy, I will hopefully avoid a similar fate!
There is no evidence he actually said 'Put me back on my bike!' on that fateful day. It's thought to have been coined by the press...

This is what happens when you leave a finish line video camera running unattended at the end of Junior parkrun...
Made me giggle...

Introducing Autumn to the delights of classic French cars
In other news, yesterday I completed my 100th parkrun and my 300th time volunteering at parkrun in various roles
This was me approaching the finish line...
And all on the eve of my 65th birthday... I'll be celebrating by birthday by officiating at Junior parkrun
