I imagine the trouble with the sump plug is it has a 21mm hex, but only an M8 (?) thread, so it suffers from the gorilla syndrome problem.

M10x1.25 but yes, definitely!

It's a pretty weedy weldnut inside.

I just priced a new sump plug and washer on eBay... Over £8

Yes, M10 and 21mm hex is just inviting trouble

More good work today, I had the airbox off and checked the injector clamps.

All at 45 Nm which seems reasonable...

Intrigued by this dry sooty mark on one corner of the underside of the air filter element

No, it's a way away from the EGR Gary... I have a theory after sleeping on it - and now having sooty hair I will discuss over lunch with learned friends and get a collective opinion...

EGR normally a good deal nearer the inlet manifold (on 16v DV6 it's on the right side of inlet manifold on the part integral with the cam cover)

Sump plugs about a pound on Autodoc (obviously the £8 p&p shifts the balance unless there's other things you need)

Mixture of M10 and M16 plugs listed (hence crude markup!)

Thanks Matt, I need to work up a big Autodoc order Trouble is, nothing much I need right now... Unless I stock up on AX spares...

We agreed, over lunch, the sooty patch on my air filter is brake dust - the air intake is in the inner wing and ideally placed to draw air in the vicinity of the brake caliper!

Yesterday I enjoyed a trip around parts of MK in this car

Giggles per mile was off the scale

And in other news, I'm now looking into getting some 16" wheels for Polly so that I can fit some higher profile tyres... I have some potentials to look at...

A quick look suggests the C3 Picasso could be had with 15" - and I wouldn't rule out dropping 2 inches from the diameter.

If your tyre availability is anything at all like ours, I wouldn't go below 16". I had to go up from 15" to 16" on my 406 D9 SV (Sedan) because the tyre choice for 15" wheels was so limited.

Interesting! Was ok when I bought 205/60 R15 for the Coupe, but that was a couple of years ago. (Good range if brands available, went for Uniroyal Rain Expert)
