Amazing where a C3 Picasso will go :-D

Many years ago, when we were still teenagers (just) we once drove a mates's Ford Cortina along the trackbed of a disused railway...

It was in the process of being converted to a cycle path... We got a stern telling off from the local constabulary for our little off-road trip

An awesome day yesterday on the South Coast Saunter :-D Delighted to meet up with Peter N :D

I even ran a parkrun :) A wet and rainy one in Dorchester. One that takes place in a relatively new piece of parkland built as part of a big and rather well executed and pleasant development in the town.

It was absolutely lovely and lovely to run a parkrun and not volunteer. I could just enjoy it :)

And enjoy it I did... I came third in my age category :)

While you are down that way you could swim over to Jersey and get the last AA box.

Wow! that's fascinating Steve - and without giving too much away, very close to home for several reasons!

I've had first-hand experience of this throughout my career.. It's called RFI - Radio Frequency Interference.

The first time I saw it beautifully illustrated in public was at a pub near Crowborough in Sussex where a band were setting up to play and could not understand why the BBC World Service was booming through their amps. Just down the road was a transmitting station (the home of the famous ASPI 1 transmitter) sending several magawatts of the BBC's finest all over the MW and SW bands...

Thanks ever so for making us all aware of this amazing little tale :D I shall drag out my copy of Tubular Bells and have a look at it on my spectrum analyser ;)

It's an odd coincidence that the bloke who owned the local car bits shop had a career that more or less paralleled yours Jim, except he did it for the RAF.
He had similar postings and stories.

Back in the early days of the telephone there was considerable interference from the BBC Home service, later to become Radio 4, on the 200 series telephones which was combatted by an ASTIC in the later 300 and 700 series phones. ASTIC being Anti Sidetone Induction Circuit which incorporated a capacitive circuit to filter out the radio!! I can't recall the finer details but I have a feeling it incorporated a 1.8 microfarad japatty !! :-D

I've only known ASDIC as first generation Sonar.

You should see mine. Without the red worm underline my posts would be even more incomprehensible that they are.
Missing letters, extra letters, words back to front and general gibberish.
Also 'e's added to words where they don't belonge, always done that thoughe.

I knew somebody who had issues with very strong RFI from his local council offices (where the main computers were housed). When he complained they refused to accept there was a problem. This went on for several months. Somebody else got involved, and recognised the various tones as computer generated. They hooked up a modem to the radio, and (after a few false starts) got legible data from the RFI. A month or so later (after still more complaints and being fobbed off) several boxes of computer printouts were left outside the council offices, with reams of semi sensitive data, including how much the Mayor and the Council Leader were being paid! Fairly shortly afterwards the RFI went away!

Ahh! The good old 'Buzzer' :-D

The [believed to be] Russians have been doing things like this for ever and ever... Their most famous one was the 'Woodpecker' although this one seems to have gone now. Maybe because its aerial array was believed to be located on Ukrainian territory.

Both the Buzzer and Woodpecker are/were believed to be Over the Horizon Radar systems...

Closer to home, despite feeling a bit rotten with what feels like a dose of Post-Saunter Lurgy I, despite severely doubting I'd even make the start, ran the Cattle Creepy 10K. A lovely run in the dark around some of MK's finest parkland with a bit of a Halloween feel about it. It includes running through a very low and narrow Cattle Creep under the Grand Union Canal... Hence its name ;) Cows must have been smaller when it was built as I'd fear a modern cow would soon get stuck in it.

And I really did enjoy it :D I even made a fairly decent job of it too... And it made me feel a bit better...

It forms part of a series of three runs with a set of interlocking medals... I now have the full set for 2023 :)

The lurgy is still apparent this morning but I'm sure it's better for running the Cattle Creepy last night...
