Re: Citrojim's AX, Pixo, C3, Running and Cycling Tales
That's a heck of a lot of ticks Robin
I'm always very careful when trail and woodland running and always on the alert for them, knowing the small deer population in these parts is massive. I've been ridiculed for suggesting wearing long socks or tights at parkrun as a sensible precaution - one lady even complained at me as she took my advice and felt too hot...
Better a bit warm than bitten I think...

I think they just like me Jim I reckon I've had getting on for 100 bites over the last 20 years, with most in the last 10 years. I know people that walk and visit the same areas as me and have never had one..... though they'll pick them off their pooches by the handful

Jim has a houseful of ticks but they are all followed by tocks so not a threat!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

I was bitten by 'something' over three years ago, ignored it and still suffering the effects.
Mentioned it to my son, who is in medical research and he mentioned how common Lyme disease has become in the UK in the past decade or so.
I thought it was only Americans who got it.

The symptoms can be so varied and random it can be difficult to pinpoint, and the blood test for it is not 100% reliable, giving both false positives and false negatives. A lot of symptoms have a lot in common with everyday life -
Running a temperature for a short or long time.
Muscle and joint aches for a short or long time.
Occasional dizziness.
Tiredness.
Although getting the red 'bullseye' around the bite is nigh on confirmation you've been infected, not everyone gets the bullseye - I didn't.

I don't think it was a tick or Lyme.
Trivial but irritating.

Trouble is Steve, if Lyme Disease goes on undiagnosed it can result in an ME/CFS-like condition, not so different to long covid... Hence why I was checked for it as part of a differential diagnosis.
Always worth being fully checked out and receiving the necessary, it's never too late to do so...

Re: Citrojim's AX, Pixo, C3, Running and Cycling Tales
Getting to see a doctor is a huge problem and was more trouble than a relatively trivial complaint was worth.
As it happens the surgery I 'attended' (haven't seen a doctor in ten years) chucked me out.
After some faffing about I have signed up with the surgery we were with in 1978.
I have to go for a 'health check tomorrow. I always go early for these things as there can be problems actually getting in. I went last Thursday, a week early

Thanks Jim. I'm sure they will let me out after it.
Well, I hope, anyway.

It is why Canadian Lumberjacks wear them (well, suspendies) like their Papa's....CitroJim wrote: ↑04 Oct 2023, 09:30 That's a heck of a lot of ticks Robin

Re: Citrojim's AX, Pixo, C3, Running and Cycling Tales
Outside my garage yesterday...
A V6 Xantia receiving new front wheel bearings...
The old ones were well past their best and took quite a tonnage to release them from their hubs...
I should make it clear here I did nothing, just provided the garage and tools.
I'm still not fit so all I could do was watch... Same as my kitchen, which is progressing very nicely now. Worktops are done, sink is all plumbed in and working and now I have a working gas hob
Recovery is looking like it'll be quite a protracted affair... I have a few things to keep me amused that don't involve any great exertion. I'm not yet in danger of going stir-crazy and climbing walls just yet but if it goes on too long...
