I'll treat you to a tip trip Jim, next time you're down here!

I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

The ANPR systems do have their drawbacks...They can't handle white on black plates for one thing!
The council had also majorly slipped up when they first implemented it in that the camera side of things is case sensitive...and the website didn't force the registration to be upper case when the booking was made (they've fixed that since). So you frequently wound up with a giant queue behind a car (there's nowhere to turn round at the barrier - also genius move there) for which the barrier wouldn't open because it had been booked in as ab23abc rather than AB23ABC which the camera was seeing.
They also get positively militant if you go even a second over the 15 minute allocated slot. Moving the skips around basically every week is something I'm sure they do just to aggravate the users as well.

I find it all a bit too authoritarian and treating us all like silly, irresponsible kids but then, it's MK Council and their pet waste contractor we're dealing with here...

Whilst I don't know the specifics of your MK recycling centre, it's worth noting that (either this year or last year) a worker at a recycling centre lost their life by getting their head in the jaws of a grabCitroJim wrote: 10 Sep 2023, 05:16
MK Council at their very finest ZelIt amuses me slightly how they put the curtains across when the grab is clearing the bays of spoil... As if we're all so stupid that we'll all throw ourselves at the grab jaws at the first opportunity...

When it comes to working in a public facing environment, you should never underestimate the stupidity of the public.

I have just claimed the 88,888th view of your blog Jim. Only 4 replies off 8800 replies too...but unfortunately just impossible to engineer that.

Yes, I must confess I never took that into consideration Robin... I'm far too used to spending the vast majority of my time with wise, sensible and rational people and assume, quite wrongly perhaps, that all people are the same. My error and in light of what you say, the curtains make very good sense.bobins wrote: 10 Sep 2023, 08:58 When it comes to working in a public facing environment, you should never underestimate the stupidity of the public.![]()

A very special day for me today. I made my debut as Run Director at Milton Keynes Junior parkrun
All went very well and I massively enjoyed it. I'll be doing it regularly from now on...

..... and there you are, standing there with a hi-viz on and a clipboard in your hand.
You'd make an excellent health and safety official.
