They are indeed, never seen anything like them.

I like your new combination staircase and toilet.

Huge thanks Chris for all you did to see my garage and house attics cleared of Xantia spares yesterday :-D

I think we both under-estimated just how much there was! Jolly impressed by how much you managed to pack in the C5 Estate... Tetris or what

What a cracker of a car that is!

A corner of my garage attic now, just a few AX spares, bike wheels and a Saxo parcel shelf and rear seat live there now...

It'll soon be home to a few items I wish to keep that are due to be evicted from the house attic to make way for the big job of properly insulating it and boarding it out...

This house and garage is rapidly becoming a tat-free zone and that's how it will be... Stuff is generally going one way now: out!

This is the fuse set up in my 1971 built house. I've had solar panels and an EV charger installed but no one's suggested it needs replacing.

Those look almost exactly like mine Eric :D The almost ubiquitous Wylex fitted into virtually every house in the 60s, 70s and 80s. Mine date from 1977 and whilst they remain perfectly serviceable and safe on a purely electrical basis, they are way off satisfying current wiring regulations...

I have some right bodges in the kitchen that are potentially unsafe so whilst I'm having that sorted out, ready for my new kitchen, it makes sense to have it all updated to current regs.

And the cost is a drop in the ocean compared to the what else is being done... Sometimes I think I should have just bit the bullet, demolished the house and started all over again!

Some - though not all - of the replaceable wire fuse boxes had an asbestos wad that lined the fuse wire path. Not an obvious place to look when doing an asbestos survey

In your own home you can snort as much asbestos as you like but in the workplace it's a health and safety no no

I have no desire to snort any at all these days Ryan! I know it's OK if not disturbed and I've not had a fuse pop in years and years but still I'd rather it was not about...

I also have Artex ceilings that are also potentially a bit worrying. They're due to be sorted when the place is fully redecorated..

Anything to do with asbestos removal is expensive to remove. I feel sorry for the Artex company as they were the first to stop using asbestos in there products other ceiling coverings carried on using it. It's cheaper to leave it and get it skimmed over with plaster. Asbestos is fine if left alone. If you have white asbestos fuse covers that are working well no point in disturbing it. You can drink asbestos, most people do, old water pipes were made of it. It's in dust form that can cause you health problems

Plastic toilet cisterns, Lino flooring, Bakelite, insulation / dampening pads under sinks, pinboards - asbestos can be found in some of them, depending on the specific item. Most of the time it's fine if left undisturbed or encapsulated and then left well alone. I think it's safe to say we've all already exceeded our safe exposure levels :(

Ah, the fashions of the late 80's, bit like woodchip in the 70's
A decent plasterer will sort that, the Artex that is.
I've got a part asbestos roof on our buggered house, not going to attack with a grinder and eat it. Most downpipes/breathers on 60/70's houses were asbestos

Arrrghhhh... Woodchip  I found some still clinging on behind one of my lounge radiators during the central hearing work last weekend. Still stuck firm to the wall!

I grew up and worked for most of my working life in a world full of asbestos Pete. When I think just how much I've been exposed to these last 60 years and indeed, all the other toxins - carbon tet, trichloroethylene and countless other substances now well and truly banned, it's amazing I'm both still here and in reasonably good health!

When I think how much powdery cadmium I've been exposed to - and lead - I shudder!

That and smoking fags for years - roll-ups at that - I'm amazed I currently have a VO2 Max* of 50. My heart and lungs seem to be in fine fettle... For now...

It won't surprise me in the least to be diagnosed with the Big C in the not too distant given how I wilfully abused my body for so long. I'm a good boy now but I fear it may all be a bit too late to make good all the damage that might have already been occasioned.

It's one reason why I'm packing in all I want to do now and not wasting any time in doing it... At least I'll be able to end my days in a nicely refurbished house, knowing it's all been done and sorted and will not give my girls any unnecessary aggro when the time comes... Another reason I want to get rid of a lot of stuff surplus to needs and have a good old tidy-up and big clear-out...

* VO2 max (also maximal oxygen consumption, maximal oxygen uptake or maximal aerobic capacity) is the maximum rate of oxygen consumption attainable during physical exertion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VO2_max). 50 for a 64 year old is quite good.

Apparently they used to put asbestos in cigarette filters as well - just to make doubly sure......... :?
