This Sunday I'm running the Two Tunnels Half Marathon which sets off from Bath and runs through two of the old Somerset and Dorset Joint Railway tunnels and then over one of the big viaducts on the line before turning around and heading back to Bath. I'm massively looking forward to it :)

My training for it is going well and I'm working up a good head of steam...
I'm devastated, despondent and close to tears   I'm not running this today due to illness and injury

The one run I've been looking forward to for months and months and what was to be one of the crown jewels in my running year has been cruelly snatched away from me :(

I'm inconsolable

I fell very ill in the early hours of Friday morning and it was a close run thing whether or not to pack me off to A and E... Seems I came down with a very virulent bug of some sort...

And to add insult to injury I 'did' my back as I collapsed and fell

Slowly recovering but likely to be on the bench, unable to run, drive or cycle, for a few days yet...

I plan to free-run the course of the Two Tunnels Half as soon as I can... At least I'll get to experience it - sort of...

It is undoubtedly a real tragedy to be denied such a longed for experience but life does go on and I know of at least three other adventures in your diary to look forward to, not to mention parkruns, Autumn and Bluebell's needs so treat it as an enforced rest Jim and build up steam for the good things to come!! Hopefully I'll see you on Sunday as planned :-({|= :taz: :pp: :bouncy: :lolsign: :wave1:

Jim, sometimes life deals you a bad hand. How you deal with it is up to you. I think that (on this occasion) you should accept that you became unwell, and just concentrate on getting well, and then back to full fitness.

Thanks for the kind and wise words both :-D Absolutely spot-on despite it being a bit heartbreaking today but that'll pass... And indeed, I still have some rather special ones to look forward to, not least the Warwickshire Bear Ultra and the MK24...

And the rest is likely to do me a lot of good :)

:hb: How utterly frustrating - no doubt you feel like this :miserable: . Hope you get well soon Jim - perhaps while recovering you can treat yourself to a special blend of tea, and maybe a favourite sweet treat =P~ .

No idea how long you will be convalescing, but maybe if you are on light duties it might be an opportunity to investigate Orienteering - best to walk while coming to grips with the detailed map reading aspect!

I'm entered for the "King's Birthday Three-day" (KBIII) this coming weekend (we have a Public Holiday on Monday to allow us to celebrate the birthday of the reigning monarch). It consists of three orienteering events on consecutive days, all on different maps. This year it's at the Central Coast - about 5 hours drive away - so it's going to be quite the mini-break!

However for a while on the weekend I thought we might have to miss it - my wife developed a headache and started to feel quite unwell and we were concerned she may have been coming down with Covid-19 (it is quite active in Armidale at the moment). She is now feeling better, but has slept for most of the weekend. I started to think that I might be getting it too, but a good long Saturday afternoon nap seems to have pulled me around :-D .

Thanks Alec :D I'll be resting up now until 100% fully fit again... I feel a bit of an improvement today and I may have identified the cause of the original malaise - lentils... I don't often eat them and the day before I did. I then tried them again yesterday and a similar event... I won't be doing so again...

It's unusual although it may be related to my known intolerance of soya...

That sounds like a great event :D And good you get a public holiday for the King's birthday :) More than we do but then we've had as lot of them this year already!

I did wonder if that was my problem but a test has come back negative. Pleased both of you are now in good form after a restful weekend!

Yes, I thought of typing something similar - I don't get an allergic reaction to lentils like Jim's, but there are - erm - "side effects". Shame, because I'm a long time fan of Indian food, but have to keep dahl and chickpea consumption to a minimum...

Much better this morning but my hip continues to hurt... No problem with movement and walking does not change how it hurts at all but I don't think I'll risk running on it yet or doing anything strenuous until it's all good...

As usual, painkillers, have no effect whatsoever...

Lentils now very much off the menu...

Pleased to report a significant improvement in health today...

After successfully managing a shopping trip to Tesco I then managed this :)
