Daffodil's new tyres have arrived
Round Black Things with Holes in the Middle

Excellent service from Black Circles! Ordered yesterday, arrived today :)

The poor delivery man though… I had just that minute finished a Zwift bike ride when he rang the bell... He had to witness me drenched in sweat and wearing only a skimpy trisuit

Now I must arrange to have them fitted ;)

Speaking of excellent service, these have literally just arrived :surprised:
Strut Top Bearings

Ordered from an eBay seller yesterday and delivered by Hermes  Is this a record?

Looks like you are part of the increasing tyre buying on line Club as evidenced by this thread

Tyre Buying Is Online the way to do it :?:

I did it once, and got the local garage to fit them, but haven't bothered since. The tyre business usually crops up at MOT time so I just get them to do it. Gives them the chance to make a little on the purchase of the tyres, and they could usually do me tyres then and there. They sorted me out pronto once when I discovered a damaged tyre which needed replacing for a journey in the morning the next day half an hour before closing. They ordered them fitted them first thing and I was on my way while the other national tyre places round about the computer said no....not possible.

Ordinarily I'd let our local tyre mob do it all and for the Pixo and Robyn's C1 they have been perfect... Good stock and good choice...

Thing is Neil, as I've found with Sally last year, the local tyre depots don't carry tyres in sizes to suit the older small cars any more and there's a lot of mucking about by them trying to source some... Last time I needed tyres for Sally it took a week for my local mob to get them in.

Tyres for cars like the AX are now considered obsolete by the standard High Street fitting mobs... How long has it been since a 145/70R13 tyre has considered state of the art?

At least it will be easy to get the struts out to change them   Compressing the springs with manual compressors is a good work out - TBH if you are going to the trouble of taking it all apart, then a new set of springs, which shouldn't be too expensive, would be a good precautionary - doing all that, then finding a broken spring a week later would be  #-o

Richard, that's an excellent thing to do at the time :) Akin to doing the water pump when you do a cambelt!

I have a good pair of spring compressors here and indeed, they are excellent workout for the arm muscles!

I had Daffodil's tyres fitted at my local tyre outfit... They're almost at the end of my street :)

With Covid their trade has suffered and they are hardly busy so were glad of a job to do! The fitter was worried about the integrity of Daffodil's sills despite my assurance they are perfect but despite that he did the job using the MoT ramp :D

He was very careful about tightening the wheel studs too and kept his rattle gun well away ;)

The new tyres have made quite a difference and she now drives very sweetly indeed. The old tyres were both mismatched and sufficiently elderly to warrant replacement on age alone...

Here she is out on a road test to see how the new rubber felt and to give here a good winter warming run before I put her back to bed in her cosy garage :)
Daffodil goes to church...
Daffodil goes to church...
I even washed off the bit of road muck she'd collected on the run before letting her air-dry and garaging her...

So that's all the big jobs, except the strut top bearings, now done... That's by no means an urgent job and can wait until the weather is better...

There's still lots of little jobs to keep me occupied through winter and lockdown :)

Seeing Daffodils' reg made ME thing of this tune, with an addition;

"Daffodil" after "What's My Name?".

Daffodil's radio died just before her MoT :(

The FM side of the radio went very intermittent and the MW side completely stopped working...

I don't normally bother to try fixing such modern electronics as this but as it's a good one and I felt adventurous I had a go...

Here it is partially disassembled with the CD deck removed...
LG LAC 3700 car CD/Radio
LG LAC 3700 car CD/Radio
Note the tuner module in the sliver box in the rear left corner... This seemed to be where the problem may have been...

After much more tricky disassembly - LG really did not intend it to be repaired or disassembled - I exposed the internals of the tuner module...
Tuner opened
Tuner opened
All looked good with nothing obvious being amiss...

And on this rather precarious lash-up on my bench all is working perfectly :)

Both FM and MW is working fine 😮😀
On soak-test... Good football match today!
On soak-test... Good football match today!
All I can do is leave it on extended soak-test and see if the fault returns...

Maybe there was a bit of metallic debris floating around causing an intermittent short somewhere in the tuner module although I couldn't find any trace of such an object...

Fingers crossed...

I take it you are using a good quality contact cleaner to soak it in? :D
