It was your good self I believe, who told me how to use a broom handle or similar to keep the brake pedal pressed down while bleeding Xantia brakes. One end on pedal, one end against drivers seat. Move driver’s seat forward to keep pedal pressed..
Indeed Michel with the engine running for servo assistance if required in the AX's case - I really didn't want to remind Grandad Jim how to suck the eggs he laid though

Tried that, unable to exert sufficient pressure...

It's fine for bleeding Xantia brakes or testing brake lights but for a very tight hub nut, no chance!

Skull thinks after seeing 9.36 post from Jim .....

Jeez poor little AX .....maybe garage has over-tightened hub nut and led to premature bearing failure #-o

On an AX the seat back is not rigid enough to apply sufficient pressure to the brake pedal via the brush trick and the angle to the B Pillar is all wrong, too much danger of slippage and potential danger...

I did not consider it safe to pursue this option too far due to the potential risk of an accident... There's no rush and it can wait until I have assistance.

Better that than risk damage or worse, an accident whilst alone. These days I work very cautiously - I have no wish to be found injured and back in hospital...

Going on how tight everything else has proved to be, very possible...

I knew the hub nut has been off in the past as I could tell by the staking... Most likely over-tightened by the person who bodged the CV boot

One good thing if you do happen to shear it off Jim, at least you will be able to make a contribution to this old thread of mine.

viewtopic.php?t=53542&hilit=sheared+a+bleed+nipple
Thanks Neil :D

Indeed, I have made loads of my little nipple adaptors to recover calipers with sheared nipples in them and have all the raw materials to hand...

Watch this space, my lathe could be busy again soon ;)
I see the first page of that "Ever sheared off a bleed nipple" thread has lost your pics of your "nipple adaptors" (pics worth a resurrection :?: ) but as it bludgeoned off topic it retains your pic of a "Silver-faced Champ".
Spoiler: show
With local firm Marshall just down the road you bought a Fender :?:

Stand on the brake pedal and wedge it down off the front of the seat with a bit of 2x2? Re-fit one of the wheel bolts and then put a bit of 2x2 under it direct off the floor (keeping it close to the hub so you don't bend it!) I always do them with the wheel on (centre pushed out) and the tyre on the floor, that way you are pulling against the handbrake, and the service brake as well if you have it wedged on.

Shame I chucked away a load of wood that might have been suitable when I had my big clear-out and reorganise a while back Richard...

The fact remains that I'm only happy to do this particular job when I have company for reasons already stated...

I've put some more Plus Gas on the bleed nipple today and gently tried undoing it but it's still stuck fast...

Any plans I had to carry on with Daffodil spannering today were postponed on account of the weather and my daughter...

The good, mild and dry weather, potentially the last for a few days at least, could not be wasted when I had a garden to put to bed for the winter...

At least with the garden done I can now concentrate on Daffodil with no distractions...

I hope the lawn has had its last mow in 2020 today...

During the garden work I received a call from Robyn.. It's her birthday today and went to Mc Donalds for a birthday treat... My, these members of Generation X really now how to live  She'd left the ignition whilst her and Greg enjoyed their MaccyDs and on trying to restart the battery was flat...

A call to dad to do a jump start...

I had no jump leads and whilst I was on my way Greg popped into the nearby Tesco and bought a pair... A good pair too remarkably for the princely sum of £10 :D

I then taught both my daughter and son-in-law how to jump-start a car as I suspect the battery is near the end of its life and those skills may be needed again...
Robyn's Breakdown insurance!
Robyn's Breakdown insurance!
Whilst jump-starting Robyn's C1 I discovered Pix has a very tiny coolant leak.. Here am I trying to sniff out the source. It's so tiny it only smells and there's been no fall in coolant level... I await it developing to the extent I can find it...
Ahh! The sweet smell of ethylene glycol!
Ahh! The sweet smell of ethylene glycol!
One bonus was that I got to see my daughter on her birthday :D
