Jim I have a friend who is very good at micro soldering. He recently repaired a lose USB charging port on a phone I was repairing. I can ask if you like. I could only just see the USB port never mind the soldered connections. [emoji16]

Been sat looking at it for the past 12 years. Have bought gear suited for the job but need to think about if for a bit.
Did the sensible thing back then and replaced it with a Cambridge system

What's one of them then Steve? H/K were once high-end Hi Fi stuff... Is it satellite TV?myglaren wrote:I have a nice Harmon/Kardon sub-sat system here needs a new pot on it.

Would love to know as I like looking at high-end stuff like that

Forgot to say, the rear disc fitting kit from ECP is made by Pagid and includes the through-bolts, springs and the thin covers.. Good value for just over £8...
Picked it up click and collect early this morning... Thanks for the tip-ff James

Re: Citrojim's Xantia Activa, 1.9TD, C1 and Bike Tales
The firrst H/K was a computer speaker setup - actually a watered down version of the one they built for the Mac.
Like this - currently half the price that mine were
The Cambridge system was much the same and again £300 - gave that to my daughter in law when I discovered Jackie Evancho, replaced it with a proper H/K amp and Jamo speakers.
I always lusted after an H/K Citation X amp but could never afford it.
Bought an Electrocompaniet pre-power system EC4.7 and Ampliwire 120 a few years back (Norwegian) and found it was designed by Matti Ottala, who designed the H/K amps
Have to say one of the best upgrades to that is a pair of XLR leads, paid £13 for some from China, rather than the £180 ones from the local hi-fi place (cheapest the stocked). The difference was incredible.
Good deal on the pad fitting kit Jim - When I last went to Halfords they wanted almost £12 for them, but had none. Bodged it with some steel plate and bolts from B&Q.

Re: Citrojim's Xantia Activa, 1.9TD, C1 and Bike Tales
Gosh, that H/K stuff is some serious kit Steve
I like it a lot! That's proper stuff
£180 for XLR leads
That's a heck of a price! Mind, I do understand some high quality audio gear is now very expensive - it's not dis-similar to high-end cycling accessories; they seem to use the same price generator as Citroen use for spares pricing - You can easily pay over a £100 for a jersey and £150 for bib-shorts..
I'm guilty of having paid £150 for a pair of cycling shoes - they are good though and work well with the £80 pedals I bought to go with them...
That sub has got to be well worth fixing (or getting fixed). It looks fantastic! I can't see it being hard to replace the pot as it's not miniature like a Plip by any means.. Reckon even I could do a good job on that...

I admit I'm a heathen when it comes to high end hi-fi. But I was in Curry's last week and they had a Sonos WiFi speaker thing going. Only small but you could hear it around the store and the impressive thing was standing right by it it was crisp and clear.

Will keep an eye on the forum through Sunday, if you're about I should be able to pop over and give it a shot. Should only be a five minute job really.
Speaking of modern hi-fi stuff, the tiny little Bluetooth portable Bose speaker I picked up a month or so back just defies physics...how so much sound and such a decent soundstage can come out of such a tiny box I have no idea! Bought it along with the Lada...it has no stereo and I reckoned that a seven or so hour drive without music was a recipe for me going mad!

Bose speakers use rare earth magnets, which are far more powerful than the normal ones. Just don't drive too close to a scrapyard, as you might end up with some of the contents heading your way!

Re: Citrojim's Xantia Activa, 1.9TD, C1 and Bike Tales
The HK pcb is almost all surface mount stuff Jim, only the pots are standard components and there is very little room to desolder the old one without burning something else.
Mine is not quite the same as the Mac kit - not as flash.
First one I saw belonged to a medical student and I thought it was some medical kit - centrifuge or something as it was on it's own as he had taken the Mac to uni.
Will do it one day. Used to do this all the time - worked in an electronics development lab* and then for TRW in one of their airbag factories.
Technically QA but on quiet days did a lot of reworking of failed modules.
Sadly it has been far too long and have forgotten most of what I knew. Just getting back into it as I bought my grandson an Arduino kit and a load of 'shields' and stuff so now I have to burn learn stuff and pass on to him.
* one of the products was on Tomorrow's World - a laser doppler blood flow detector to establish the requirement for skin grafting - no longer in production.

I rather did for myself on Friday doing so much on Gabriel and this weekend I've been somewhat paying the price. I pushed myself a little too hard and should have known better

So, this weekend is one concentrating on rest and recovery...
