Your wrong Z ... the engine in the 1.0 is a new 3 pot and runs rings around the citroen. You must be thinking of the old series1 hyundais. Check out the latest models.

Thought that might be the case - the one I had had definitely only recently been introduced when we got it, but that was a year ago and we all know how fast the motoring world moves these days!

A more characterful power unit would really transform the car I reckon, and make it a heck of a lot more fun. Will have to see if I can get hold of one to compare to sometime.

I think you sum up the C1/107 well with the words 'quirky' and 'fizz' Zel :-D

But was yours a 1.0 or 1.2? The range WAS redesigned in 2014 with only the 1.0 option getting a brand new 3cyl engine. There mustnt have been time to redesign both so the 1.2 remained as an older engine. I think theyve just put out the first new 1.2 engined cars recently.

Ours was a 1.2, so that would explain it. Wasn't bad, but just a bit of a dull power unit.

Jim, that was my thinking, and why it struck so much more of a chord with me than most other new metal in 2008 when i started looking for a new car.

Not honestly sure what I'd go for now (not that I'll likely ever be buying a new car again - Morgan 3-Wheeler excepted once the pot is full - a good few years down the line!), but I think the Cactus would get a serious look in. Was well impressed with the demonstrator we had past a few months ago. Only real gripe I had was that the touchscreen (minus in my book immediately anyway) really needed a faster processor. Mine would have to be bright yellow though. Reckon Citroen have missed a trick not offering them with the Airbumps in crazy colours...sorry, but I'm enough of a child inside that the idea of a black one with neon orange or green detailing appeals to me...

I agree about the Cactus Zel and a yellow one for me too :-D

Academic though as I see my C1 lasting me for many years based on my driving requirements,,,,

I'll likely need a new bike before I need a new car...

Totally agree on the Cactus. A friend has one and it's quite nice, decent headroom too. The touchscreen is just dangerous though and needs some sort of tactile feedback to be viable.

Totall disagree on the cactus.. a car needs to look for me to like it.. and I just dont like the split lamp front end from the c4 picasso.. and if the next c5 adopts that front which I think it is then future citroen driving for me is numbered and limited increadbly...

Yes, but Paul, it's different and quirky... A proper Citroen :-D

At least you're not driving an anonymous eurobox in a Cactus. Even the name is quirky...

I like all of that.

Daft bloody car, agree the touch screen is very very dangerous, better than the DS however with its MASSIVE central console that prevents me moving my left leg....stupid design

Which DS in particular Alasdair?

I find, C1 excepted, a lot of modern cars very claustrophobic with their high dashes and tiny side-windows.. The Xantia and C1 are like greenhouses in comparison...

Due to my claustrophobia it's a very important consideration for me...

DS4 was the one I drove/sat in
Image

Note the consul side walls extending up/into the leg/knee space.....as a 6 footer that makes it horrid, so much so that it would instantly rule the car out......WHY make bloody great walls ?
Draw a line down from its edge to the seat, it is further in than the edge of the seat, just plain stupid, they have lost the plot totally.
The seat squab also does not support my legs, why to short, the Activa seats are 500% better....it really surprised me how bad (for me) it was.

Looks very 'busy' in there :(.
The controls looks as though they fell off an eighties boom box.

That's a pet hate of mine. Even modern Volvo's touch up my legs too much. One of the many reasons I still like Xantias.

The DS4 is a disgrace, I told the Marketing Manager at the Citroen BBQ and showed him the problem, he did not like it much and just walked away huffing about me being "to tall" before I even got out of the car...what a pric7
