Re: Citrojim's Xantia V6, C1 and Activa Tales
Gosh, no way.. Took one look at it and decided it was far too clever for me Mike... I failed even to grasp the very basics.. I'm sure it's excellent but definitely not for the likes of me...Northern_Mike wrote: Anyway, thinking about it, I'd have thought you'd use that other Photo-editing software that's free with Linux, that I'm not going to type the name of, because it'll get Malcolm going again
I use a very simple one called 'Pinta' Works a treat for what I need to do...

I'm with you on all of that Jim, I can make computers, servers, routers etc work, but I'm not that good at actually using the damn things, much to everyone's surprise!CitroJim wrote:Gosh, no way.. I know exactly Mike, I can barely use Word and Excel. It's common in the likes of us... I'd say it was normal...

I have had to resort to The Gimp to print wedding photo's fro an album for my eldest son and daughter in law.
Taking absolutely ages as I am really just groping around in the dark, as it were.
I'm a former printer/darkroom technician so it should be simple

Should have got mine around too then we could have had three red Xantias in shot...even if mine is a scruffier S2.
The Gimp I have found is a very powerful tool - its usefulness generally being directly proportional to how much effort you are willing to put into learning your way around. The interface assumes two things.
One, that you have two or more monitors. Stuff the toolboxes on one display, and have your canvas full screen on the other. Trying to use it on a single monitor is at best maddening.
Two, it assumes you're a keyboard shortcut addict (which I am). Usually when I'm using it either for drawing or photo editing, I've got the stylus in my right hand over the tablet, and my left just permenantly hopping around the keyboard.
...if you, like me, customise a heap of them, for the love of kittens, write down a cheat sheet before doing a reinstall or you will be having random "aargh!" moments for months as you find random keypresses doing anything but what you expect.

Not long been back. Arrived back home at around 21:00 last even after a stunning drive back from Paris in Chris's HDi Xantia..
What a vehicle.. 260K on the clock, comfy as you like and never missed a beat on the whole trip.. Chris filled up at Calais and a fuel consumption check revealed a figure of 56MPG for the trip

That is, by any stretch, magnificent!
It was a magnificent trip all-round and very much enjoyed

i can still smell developer, as my dad used to be the manager of a camera shop in Folkestone back in the 60's and 70's, he used to do all the developing and printing in our bathroom at home, he had a huge metal light box above the bathroom door, which had red and green lights in it

I think it would be the fixer you could smell Malcolm, that was pretty pungent.
Developers have very little smell.
