Re: Citrojim's Xantia V6, C1 and Activa Tales
I never post much about the C1 because, well, it just does it's job without fuss, complaint or any stress on its or my part..
It truly is my perfect car for the job it does... I really do love it and it's firmly on its way to establishing itself as the best car I've ever had...
The tax reminder coming in the pot today reminded me I've had it almost a year now...
DVLA have offered me new tax on either a 6 monthly basis, a 12 monthly basis and even monthly terms... All for N/A...
It was very easy to renew on-line too... I made my payment of £0.00 without any problem at all...

Re: Citrojim's Xantia V6, C1 and Activa Tales
That's both cars taxed for another year... The new DVLA on-line taxing site is much better than the old one..
Very quick and very slick..
I've printed the site confirmations now there's no disc to prove you have tax...
All is good... The Activa at £230 for the year is worth every penny...

I'm glad you're getting on well with it Jim. I feel the same way about the Berlingo despite it's small faults. Definitely the best car I've ever had!CitroJim wrote:

Sometimes I think less is more with a little modern car, or is it an age thing? It's a nice to know your loving your C1 Jim, it's got character that a lot of modern stuff is sadly lacking imo.

I think they fall into the same sort of niche Mike, supremely practical and totally unfussy - just what you need in a working car...Northern_Mike wrote: I feel the same way about the Berlingo despite it's small faults. Definitely the best car I've ever had!
In the case of the C1 that is definitely the case Mark as it is perhaps the most basic and down to earth modern car out there... But, against that it's well screwed together, very well in fact as it oozes quality - surprisingly - and as you say, one thing it has in spades is character... Loads of it..bxzx16v wrote:Sometimes I think less is more with a little modern car, or is it an age thing?
I don't think age comes into it as it seems to appeal fairly equally to people of all ages...
They are brilliant in every respect...
Re: Citrojim's Xantia V6, C1 and Activa Tales
I don't think it's an age thing as much as a "I really can't be arsed fixing cars all the time just to have a vehicle to get my family and me around" - at least for me it is. I've got a few friends who've always driven older cars, and all of them seem to reach the same conclusion in their early 40s - yes, older motors are fun to tinker with *when you want to* not when you have to and all of them have at least one modern car as well as a, <cough> classic.bxzx16v wrote:Sometimes I think less is more with a little modern car, or is it an age thing?

Re: Citrojim's Xantia V6, C1 and Activa Tales
The c1oc is full of youngsters with sports exhausts, wheels, etc and older folk who have them as dailys, poor folk on a budget and rich folk as a second or third car. I think they are a true classless car in the way tho original mini was. Brilliant cars. To be honest the car I most regret parting with was my 09 plate 107 urban lite. The basic model, it had doors, windows, a heater and a cd. No electrics to go wrong, in fact nothing to go wrong really.

take care Davie, you will have us going all the way back to "Lucky Lucus" electric soon with open bullet connectors in the wheel arch......
There was a reason for lack of stuff back them

I won't be getting an original mini any time soon, and my ex had a german BINI which I hated, but I could see me having a C1 107 Aygo if the seats were better. Having said that Shaun's 107 sportium has better seats than my urban lite had.

Spot-on Mike. I totally agree.Northern_Mike wrote: yes, older motors are fun to tinker with *when you want to* not when you have to and all of them have at least one modern car as well as a, <cough> classic.
I totally agree with that too Davie...daviemck2006 wrote:I think they are a true classless car in the way tho original mini was. Brilliant cars.
I had a 1964 Austin Mini. It was my first car. Yes, it has the same feeling about it but without any of the minus points.
Some might say the C1 is the spiritual successor to the 2CV but also and equally it shares a lot of it's character with another magical car I owned many years ago - the R4... Still one of the very best cars I ever owned. I had two...
Sticky, Joe Lucas, the Prince of Darkness, can keep his electrics exactly where they belong. As a period in history best forgotten, along with Wipac...

Re: Citrojim's Xantia V6, C1 and Activa Tales
What gets me about it, I see so many people "restoring" their cars and refitting the damm stuff !....talk about cutting you own nose off
I like the C1 and it does look like a lot of fun (unless your 6-4 and asked to go in the back
, but hey I look over the top of the screen of a AH Frogeye and that was fun to be in (for a few miles)
Drove a friends Bini...and it was horrid to drive for my size, did not like it at all ...and my got it has got FAT ! Too many people following the "book" at BMW and now they have lost grip of the basics.
Fat birds in Mini skirts...never a good look.

Re: Citrojim's Xantia V6, C1 and Activa Tales
The problem with the modern MINI is it's name. If BMW had made it just as front wheel drive hatch without all harking back to the original Mini, it'd be nothing more than a good little car. I've driven a couple of modern Coopers and they're really rather good. Also really rather overpriced for a FWD hatch..

Re: Citrojim's Xantia V6, C1 and Activa Tales
Our one was a 60 plate mini one 1.6 diesel loaded to the hilt with extras as it was the dealer demo. We bought it at 5 months old for 14 grand. The list price for a new one with no extras was 14 grand. With the metallic paint, alloys, air con, salt pack, pepper pack, and a few other bits and pieces it had 5 grand of extras. It broke 3 times and and towed back to the dealer before the ex stole it when she legged it. I have no idea where she or it is now, nor do I care. I hated it and she's not far behind!

Salt Pack?
Is that an anti-rust precaution?
