I've got to admit, I can't wait to hear back on your adventure, thought I do suspect that not everything will make it back to the public domain I suspect, also there will be a legend or two created whilst you're over there..........
I have been thinking though, can we start placing orders for parts before you go

Very possibly Steve I have a feeling it may well be worth a blog all of its own... I have a belief it'll be like a Top Gear Special although we'll do our best not to offend anyone...Trainman wrote:I do suspect that not everything will make it back to the public domain I suspect, also there will be a legend or two created whilst you're over there..........
We are travelling in a Xantia...
Difficult. I hear they're installing metal detectors at the exits and speaking of strip searched... Security s being significantly tightened for our visit and Gendarme escorts are being rumoured to make sure we behave ourselves...Trainman wrote:I have been thinking though, can we start placing orders for parts before you go

Re: Citrojim's Xantia V6, C1 and Activa Tales
Checked over the cars this afternoon...
The V6 is fine but then she's hardly doing anything these days...
The C1 is fine too but I noticed a little mayonnaise on the dipstick and under the oil filler cap...
Is this a common C1 issue or is it because I do only short journeys in it or even because I don't thrash it hard enough?
I noticed Sian's Pixo suffers the same problem...
I shall give the C1 an oil change shortly despite it's only done just over 2000 miles... That's in six months... Shows I really do do only short runs in it...

Re: Citrojim's Xantia V6, C1 and Activa Tales
Take the C1 out and hammer it Jim, it will be condensation from the short runs. Several people at work have had the same symptoms where they, like me, only do around 100 miles a week.
I don't get any but do take it for a speedy run now and again, more to keep the battery charged than anything. Driving is almost always done in the dark with the heaters and heated seats on which isn't treating the thing kindly on a four mile trip.
Had the aircon re-gassed yesterday and the headlight that I failed to fix sorted. Was out in it earlier and after about a mile (autowipers/autolights on) the dash lit up like a Christmas tree, beeps and whistles and everything shut down, service light on (car carried on though)
Turned the wipers off and onn again and all back to normal except service light still on.
Went off after a restart though and all appears to be normal now. Perhaps the sight of all the snow worried it

Re: Citrojim's Xantia V6, C1 and Activa Tales
I reckon I must start hammering it a bit and taking it for a long run at least once a week to clear it. Or ride to work on a bike... I've thought about it as I could physically do it with ease but the road to work and back is lethal for bikes...
Interesting on your electrical funnies Steve.. I was speaking to a member of Team WFA today who has a 407 and his did some funny old things electrically today too.. Must be the time of the week or something...
Malcolm, I prefer mayo every time...

Re: Citrojim's Xantia V6, C1 and Activa Tales
I think it may have been reacting to someone tinkering with it yesterday. I had a go at it a couple of weeks ago and it refused to start that night, battery needed recharging before it would go.
Spent a week trying to get in touch with the mobile sparky that did the previous C5, son's 306 and repaired the rear opening screen for a very sensible price but was unable to get hold of him.
As for biking to work, a bloke near me was killed on Friday, riding to work. Blown under a bus and fatally squished.
Not sure which is worse, ketchup or mayo. Bleurgh to both of them

Re: Citrojim's Xantia V6, C1 and Activa Tales
Just looked to buy an oil filter for the C1 from the 'bay..
They're cheap enough but all vendors want £20 or £25 postage...
Cheeky as the C1 oil filter is not much larger than a thimble...
Cheaper to get one from my local factors...

Filter
Assume there was a typo in your post Jim - Twenty to Twenty five quid postage
You'd be advised to use an OE filter if you are going to do it yourself (and keep receipt for OE oil as well) - just in case the engine goes bang before the warranty is up.....

That's better Richard...
No, it was not a typo. When I checked on the 'bay earlier all the P and P charges seemed to be silly...
Maybe a 'funny'
Good point about warranties...
