You know Steve, I've often wondered about hooking up my cross trainer to an alternator and therefore make all my work on it do something useful apart from keeping me in trim. I reckon I could generate a good bit in a day...

I'll be interested to hear how the solar goes as I see lots of houses round here growing them on their rooftops...

In madness worthy of the EU, our Government's energy review has determined we have too much "free" energy. More people have fitted solar panels than expected, household usage is dropping, therefore more is being backfed.

Maybe they're worried that all those solar panels is putting an unreasonable load on the sun and it might wear out more quickly...

To be honest the biggest problem with power is that there is no real easy way of storing electric on a mass scale regardless of climate :(

Despite yesterday being my day off, nothing car-related has been done so the V6 remains up on stands and still in bits. It's only a weekend toy now so no matter how long it takes.

Plus my injured finger is still very bad and making it hard to do a lot of spannering.

So I did lots of cooking and domestic work instead. Along with learning about the new Linux CentOS 7. It's a bit changed from 6 and a bit brain-teasing at first. I now have a good example running.

I did take the Activa out for a long spin and oh, how lovely it is :-D I suspect I have cooling fan troubles again though :( I shall look at it possibly next Wednesday.

I also filled up the C1 with petrol. It's a rare job  I managed to remember which side the filler was on...

It's good to see your sharing your Citroen love between the three Jim, I'm the same with the blingo as it only gets filled up once a month.

What's the attraction with CentOS Jim? Have you abandoned Ubuntu?
I keep meaning to investigate some others but complacency gets in the way.

No, Ubuntu still reigns supreme for me on the desktop Steve but I much prefer CentOS for the server side of things. CentOS is more unix-like than Ubuntu and a bit cleaner and slimmer. I like that you can start off with a very minimal CentOS and install on it only what you need for the server to do what is required of it. Microsoft cold learn a valuable lesson from CentOS.

I work with CentOS at work so have a good bit of familiarity with it. I was going to say professionally but that would really be lying

I'm slowly refreshing my servers at home and moving from Ubuntu Server to CentOS. A winter project and no doubt one that will take a long time!

A good day today :-D I got hold of a load of cheap plums from Tesco last evening and turned them into jam today whilst Chris570 replaced a lower swivel joint on his HDi.

I also cooked up a chicken chilli men out of my Wagamama cookbook for lunch and was disappointed when Chris refused the chopsticks to eat it!

Huge thanks to Chris today for refitting the alternator to my V6 today, a task that was stalling me due to my ongoing finger issues. Now all that's left is to do is the hydraulic pump and refit that and I reckon I can do that on Wednesday.

I acquired an exercise bike over the weekend. It's good mechanically but has a duff speed sensor on it so the dashboard does not work. That didn't stop me doing 20 minutes on the cross trainer followed by weights and then 15 minutes on the new bike this evening...

My speed on the cross trainer is creeping up nicely. I can now hold 20kp/h at maximum resistance for well over 20 minutes and crack 5km distance in less than 15 minutes. My swim speed is also increasing nicely too..

I must try to source a new speed sensor for the bike so I can see how far and fast I'm going on that one....

My conservatory is now looking more and more like a gym...

My finger is recovering nicely and today I should go a long way to getting my V6 back on her wheels. First though is a small matter of visiting the dentist for a filling

I hasten to add this filling is a repair to an old one and not a new one!

I've been a bit quiet recent as I've been busy configuring and testing a new production forum server running CentOS 7. It's now nearly ready to roll after hardening it and carrying out trial forum updates on it.

I will advise when the forums will be moved across. It'll be during a day and I expect the outage to be several hours as the updates needed will take a while.

More news as it happens...

Aghh well, ho hum... Another Wednesday when nothing gets done to my V6  Domestic work, that dental appointment and sorting out Sian's laptop ready for Uni next week has seen to that..

I have been out in my Activa this morning on the Waitrose shopping run and it was fantastic. I do so love that car immensely and the extra pep provided my the manual boost controller is such fun and so addictive...

It is my favourite car by a long way... Don't get me wrong, I love my V6 and C1 but the Activa is just.... Special 8-) :P

Happy to report the cooling fans are behaving completely normally today :-D

Off now to make a fish bake... Mmmmm 8-)
