Re: Citrojim's Xantia and XM Tales
The XM threw an ABS wobbly today. ELIT reported RH Front sensor was duff and when checked it certainly was. A new one is on order...
Whilst in there I took the opportunity to pop a new auxiliary belt on as the old one looked to be not in the first flush of youth but actually was not as bad as it looked. Still, it's a critical belt and that job is now done..
As that and the sensor needed the mudshields removed I was able to check the bumper mount and sill end for rust. Nowhere near as bad as feared but a little migginess and new metal will be needed at some time in the future in all the usual places...
I got the old Bilt Hambler Dynax S-50 rust prevention wax going on it and filled up the offside sill with the stuff.
I'll do the other side in due course...
Got to look after the old girl...

Re: Citrojim's Xantia and XM Tales
Your certainly right about looking after the old girl Jim , I've got a couple of bits to sort on the Zx , nothing major just sloppy jack placement which has damaged the factory applied underseal . Why can't people be more careful , all the bits I have attended to previously have been caused by idiotic jacking , rant over
.

Re: Citrojim's Xantia and XM Tales
My new ABS sensor has just turned up from ECP complete with an enormous free can of QX Maintenance Spray, a WD-40'esque sort of thing.. Delivered before their deadline too
Going to fit it now as that'll mean I can go to Manchester and back tomorrow without the niggle of an ABS light glowing in my face...

Re: Citrojim's Xantia and XM Tales
Job done, ABS sensor replaced. Light is out
That's not quite such an easy job on an XM
I thought I was going to be lucky as I got the top plastic bit moving... Or so I thought...
It was just the top and that came away leaving the sleeve in the hole.. A punch and cold chisel soon saw it off...
Putting the new one in was scary. It's so tight in the hole despite me cleaning the hole very carefully and making sure all muck and rust was banished. I gently and gingery tapped it in and all is good
I was really worried how hard I was tapping it though..
The Xantia is a piece of cake in comparison.. Think Xantia rear and that's what XM fronts are like..

Well, there we go
I got the engine and gearbox out of the boot this morning, the car is much happier now it's not got all that weight behind the rear axle!

Should have fitted some dodgey rear tyres and practised your drifting in the current weather on some nice oil roundabouts
4 wheel drifts are much much fun

Re: Citrojim's Xantia and XM Tales
It's been a long time... Things have conspired against me doing a lot either on here or on the cars recently so no real news...
Generally all three have been behaving themselves but you can just tell they were feeling a bit neglected and both the XM and the Activa threw little tricks to force me to give them what they craved...
In the case of the XM it was a soft front tyre. I don't know why but every now and again the offside front decides it hated being blown up to 2.4 bar and takes itself down to 1.8. Totally randomly and for no reason as far as I can see. I blow it up and it'll hold for weeks at 2.4 bar before again, when it feels it's being neglected, let a load of air out.
I can't explain that one...
The Activa has a much better way of doing it. She's been parked up of a couple of weeks whilst the V6 Xantia has been doing daily duties and I can only assume Activa is jealous because I've bought the V6 a little present. I can't see any reason for Activa to be jealous as she already has one but you know what these cars are like
Anyway, I woke the Activa up from her slumbers this morning and she greets me with an ABS light
Later I put the ELIT on her and ELIT declares it's the right-hand REAR sensor. Arrrgh
I try clearing the fault and it cleared. So far, has not reappeared...
I am bracing myself for a rear sensor replacement escapade. I bet the fault will not stay away for long...
