Jim is dead right. These boilers are graded F on some scale I cannot recall because I have not practised as an Architect for over 3.5 years now.

Having written that, my memory has refreshed. It will be a CIBSE guide or BRE guide (Building Research Establishment).

They would have les than 69% efficient when new.

Due to climate change boilers are designed to fail regularly. Of course, they would never advertise this. It is in-built redundancy.

One thing that peeved me off was we are made to jump through hoops in this tiny island but the likes of China are destroying the planet as they go through their Industrial Revolution.

This is why China is the rising hegemon and why the US are relinquishing their grip on world power and control.

China will rise and then hopefully fall in line with Western values in terms of climate change as world pressure mounts against them.

It is a slow but fine balancing act.

Blimey, this blog has been well and truly hijacked by talk of boilers and stoves

Must get it back on track....

I think I said the ABS on the V6 packed up on the way back from Somerset and an ELIT check determined it to be the front Nearside (as it always seems to be  )

Ordered a new on from Neat Autos via the 'bay for £13 and it arrived less than 22 hours later. What service :-D

Fitted and now all good.

Interestingly, the old one was intermittent. A resistance check showed it to be 1067 ohms whereas the new one and a comparison one was 1006 ohms. The light first came on going through a puddle and I'm wondering if water gets into them through the end and rots them..

In other news, one of my cats has gone to the great scratching post in the sky following what we suspect was poisoning. It was mercifully quick for the old boy.

Christmas was OK but I'm glad it's over... We can look forward to some 360 Christmas-free days from now on...

Reason for my absence these past few days is the usual

Glad to hear the ABS is sorted Jim. Even in my limited experience, it's always been the NSF Sensor that fails. I just put it down to the higher number of roadside puddles and crud it is subject to. The centre of the roads are usually relatively clean.

Awfully sorry to hear about the cat :-( Been there..

She's not even seemed to notice  cats are strange creatures; odd as he was her kitten 9 years ago...

Yes, it was a shock and put a dampener on Christmas really. One moment a very fit, healthy cat and next...

Not sure what poisoned him but cats are very sensitive to toxins so it could have been anything.

Snakebite from an adder? Otherwise, eating a dead/dying rat or mouse that's been poisoned by baiting.

Snakebite is unlikely this time of year Adam, they will all be hibernating.
Poison of some description is far more probable.

Well, now you cone to speak of it Adam, I wonder if the nearby river in full flood at the time drew something like an adder out of hibernation - certainly the land nearby is good adder country and I guess knowing how fond of chasing wildlife the cat was that if he came upon an adder, niggled and soggy, that he'd have had a go at it...

A poisoned mouse or rat is more likely and again one that was washed out by the floods is a distinct possibility...

The vet told me the symptoms of anti-freeze poisoning so I can rule that out... Poison by ethylene glycol is very nasty it appears...

I love cats. They seem to love me too. I don't believe that they are actually that independent - they give the impression that they are, but we have to face facts - something with a head that small, can't be *that* intelligent - there's simply not the room for the brain power :-) I think their "intelligence" is just nature's programming. They all have their little ways, but I find them all remarkably similar to deal with. The "experts" say that domestic cats never reach mental adulthood - they get stuck in an adolescent frame of mind because we humans look after them and they never have to develop. This is one reason why most domestic cats will stay playful all their lives. I did some work for the Cats Protection League years ago when I lived in Marlow, catching strays. I haven't yet met a cat that I couldn't get to come to me - they wouldn't go near some other folk though. Very odd. Maybe I smell of mice or something! I never used the net we had for catching them. I am the cat whisperer!

In fact, Jim's post has reminded me, so I've volunteered to help the CPL again.. I have way too much spare time on my hands with my weird shift patterns.

Cat food doesn't taste of anything. It's the weirdest thing. It manages to stink like hell, and taste of absolutely nothing.

One wonders how bad the head of a mouse must taste, if the cat eats the rest of it. One of mine has a habit of eating everything but the face. It even eats the rest of the head, then you find a tiny face, staring blankly at you. Very spooky

Sorry Jim. There goes that thread drift again..

That's no worries Mike. It's the FCF after all

Actually a very interesting drift :) How do you know cat food tastes of nothing? personal experience? I know it stinks and sometimes it makes me want to retch when feeding mine.

Cats are fascinating creatures. I'm no real lover of them but I've always had a cat and life just wouldn't be right without one in the house. My old girl is a real character. She lives for food, warmth and winding me up - the latter she does very effectively and knows limits and exactly which buttons to push to provoke me into the action she desires..

Which lends well to the theory that cats (and in fact all domesticated animals) are still kittens at heart. cats especially have a lot of what we'd expect from a baby!

As for feline intelligence. No, not as we understand intelligence and in fact I think sometimes cats are rather stupid and thick with little capacity to learn. Something I also think about a vast majority of dogs although some dogs appear to be remarkably intelligent in some ways.

Good on the CPL work Mike :-D As I say, I'm not by any means a dyed in the wool cat lover but having said that I'd never tolerate a moment of cruelty or mistreatment. there's far too much of it about and anything you can do to reduce a bit of feline suffering is good by me :-D

i beleve all animals are more intelligent the so called human beings,

99% of the time they only take what they need,

we judge intelligences by the way we think,

my African grey knows exactly what he wants and how to get it,

and most of what he say's is in context,

he hasn't learned how to unlock the padlock on his cage as yet though
