Yesterday was a bit of a photographic one...

My charity shop special and bought for pennies Canon EOS 500 was found to have a sticky shutter after shooting my first film with it...

This one:

I did the traditional shutter repair using fag lighter petrol (naptha) and cotton buds...

I shot a second roll of film, a lot of it during our April Adventure to Norfolk, and keen to see if my shutter work had been successful I got busy in my bathroom cum darkroom...

Note that the tube of toothpaste was not used in the development process ;)

And the result certainly seems to suggest my work was successful :)

Now to get back to fixing my duff Pentax now I have the required adhesive to repair the broken viewfinder eyepiece.

Repurposing Jim's broken cameras.
May have a contender of my own. Olympus E 500 won't download to the laptop and seems to think newly charged, and brand new, batteries are flat.

'Steampunk' I believe they call it Steve... I call it something else  Rhymes with trap...

That looks like an old Praktica - the shutter release is a potential giveaway...

That's a nice looking camera Steve. What error codes is it throwing up? Will it save to SD card? Is it otherwise working?

Reddit has some very good camera repair subs. I've learned loads from them. Might be worth looking for common E500 faults there ;)

No SD card,it has both XD and a CF cards, ordered a card reader for both.
No error codes shown, just a red battery icon and when connected says "Wait a moment" - forever.
It is a good twenty years old so no WiFi or Bluetooth.

I needed a macro shot yesterday and the Olympus worked but then couldn't get the image off it. The Nikon wouldn't focus close enough. Too idle to retrieve the Fuji so used the phone, that worked well despite my expectations.

I would not be surprised if a 20 year old camera has some bad capacitors.

A fair assumption.
It still takes decent photo's so if the card reader works then we're golden.

Probably not repairable as Olympus have withdrawn from the photo business and concentrate on medical optics.

I'd be suspecting the battery Steve... If it's the original it could be quite tired by now...

Ahh, not that then.. Mike has likely got the better answer with his capacitors...

Good news arrived in the post today 😀

She who practices nursing insists I wear a sun hat after remarking yesterday how I've caught the sun on my face, neck and ears these past few days...

I'm not keen on hats but if I must it has to be a silly one 🤪🤣

I'm like you and don't like hats. Not any more at least.
But in my teens had a bearskin, sourced from the local army and navy stores, along with a Crimean war red jacket with a bullet hole in it, and a silver-topped cane.

I think it was this regalia that attracted my wife to be. Way beyond daft.
Surprised the local thugs didn't take exception to it all.

So definitely a vote in favour of silly hats. Yours reminiscent of Bill & Ben :)
