That would work if you can't find a better source, likely to be expensive as it is *Audio* cable. The biggest problem may be the stiffness and diameter making it difficult to negotiate the awkward corners and small holes it may need to go through.

Got round to taking the seat/carpet out ready for the seat mount fix and was staggered to see what was really wrong

Any ideas on what other than the battery should be disconnected in and aroung the vicinity of the area in need of repair

So much for me thinking the nut had simply come adrift
That can be seen next to the screwdriver

That is my problem Steve im trying to do the repair with the correct sized wire in an attempt to keep it looking normal
I have still got a few avenues left to try but am now getting to the stage where i need to get it sorted so i can progress with the other jobs :)

Right for those of you with a skill at welding please look away now

Image

It doesnt look pretty but it does infact do the job.The tin on the crossmember is very thin and this extra piece is a lot thicker and now has the captive nut welded on underneath in the centre. The reason for not bending the outer edges down was a purely calculated one the larger the area the more the load is being spread (fingers crossed :) ) and also the tin was a bit soft

have now refitted carpet and centre console amd seat and touch wood its holding tight only the MOT man to convince now :)

Right can finally put the TD to one side and let SWMBO have the keys back so that i can focus my attention on the VSX :D :D :D

\:D/ \:D/ \:D/ Mr MOT man decided that my repairs were good enough to get a pass \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

Have ordered my wire for the VSX from tinterweb expected delivery Friday so will hopefully have that side of things sorted on Saturday then begins the proccess of tracing a couple of electrical problems and then the interior can be cleaned and replaced.Windscreen is being done in about 3 weeks so scuttle will be being temporarily put back just to keep the interior dry.

Have had a good day today plenty of time to work on the VSX :D :D
My wire arrived yesterday so took the plunge in trying to fix the ignition problem.Removed the bumper so i had access to the infamous loom under the radiator and with a lot of luck i managed to find the break in the wire just where the loom bends up to head into the depths of the drivers wing   .Decided it was much safer to route a new wire from the scuttle to the fusebox and i took the liberty of routing a spare wire of 40A rating in at the same timejust in case i had a feed problem for the HRW/Blower but fortunately i have found i have power to the feed upto the main connection box on this wire so looks like its investigations inside the car :D :D

You can see in the following pics the join by the fuse box and then the routing up behind the LHM resevoir along the bonnet release then the throttle cable before running through a scuttle lug locating hole and then the join just prior to the main connection block :)

Had planned to get stuck in and get the VSX to do list a little bit shorter over the easter weekend but ended up spending the weekend away in the caravan :) :) Had good weather and as it had been in storage since November i was expecting a few problems but suprisingly everthing worked and not one sign of damp so my efforts of last summer seem to have been rewarded :D :D

Today ive had time to work on the VSX and i have actually made some progress 8) 8) .Refitted the wiper mechanism and set it up correctly and replaced the scuttle with a temp seal to try and keep the interior dry until the screen gets replaced.Next up was the Blower/HRW problem and that was quickly sorted out by fitting the relay mod evrything is working even the wing mirrors get heat :D :D .
Noticed earlier that the radio would constantly seek for channels so decided to unplug left hand steering wheel controls and that has sorted the problem for now need to check and see if its the buttons or the cable.

Only new problem i have found is that the heater is only blowing out hot air regardless of where the slider is set so that is going to require some extra investigating :? :?

On a really good note the A/C works---well it all kicked in ok and the fans were spinning but not sure of the temp it would get to

Well today has been outstanding.....lots of time spent sorting the VSX out and things have gone suprisingly well :D :D

Traced the fault for the o/s/r window to a broken wire in the door pillar and bridged with an extra piece of wire now all 4 windows work :) :)

Sorted the blower flap out just a tweak or two on the wire and all is well.aAlso the blower is puttting out hot and cold air now..not sure if i did anything to it but as its ecu operated im not sure if its an adaptive ecu or if it clearded itself having been unused for best part of 3 years :? :?

Crossed my fingers and decided that i could start to put the inside back together now that i had solved the electrical gremlins
Complete interior wash carpets hoovered and replaced followed by the centre console and then the seats and it would appear everthing is still working :D :D

Had chance to have a look at the exhaust aswell and it appears to have sheared off just before the back box and is sitting on the convieniently positioned crossbar :( :( Not sure if i can salvage the middle section but seems all ok apart from that.Back box has rotted on tail pipe but looks good otherwise :) :)

One thing i have just remembered is the oil temp gauge is not working guessing its the sender that sits on the front of the sump with a blue plug connector but my guesses have known to be wrong before

Next major task is going to be the n/s/r door swap hiope to tackle that next weekend giving myself a whole day for that :D :D

Well what an expensive day today turned out to be

Finally got a list together for the VSX and went out shopping
Oil and filter, air filter, 5ltr Hydraflush,5ltr antifreeze, accumulator sphere, forte stop leak, front caliper rewind tool (thanks for the tip Vince :) ),exhaust paste,5 ltr distilled water, grease and sealant :D :D
Then there was the tax for 1.9d..add in the £40 for the back box the old wallet has taken a bit of a hammering :( :(

But put the time today to good use back box fitted, sounds real good now,LHM drained filters and tank cleaned and refilled with Hydraflush.Accumulator sphere changed (why couldnt i find the pressure release screw   :? :? ) along with oil and filter change and the air filter done :D :D
Coolant change to be done tomorrow along with radiator and engine flush with stop leak to be added as i have noticed the dreaded curry aroma :) :)

That leaves just the rear brakes to be overhauled /cleaned up and the door swap for Monday and the windscreen when i get some more beer tokens :D :D

Apologies in advance before you read further....RANT MODE engaged

Got the sheared bolt sorted on the 1.9TD lucky for me it was just a few beer tokens :D :D but have traced the squeaking noise SWMBO heard as being the final throws of the n/s strut top
As those that have followed this blog the VSX i aquired from Andmcit is/was a replacement for my 1.9D but money has now begun to dry up or more to the point be requisitioned for other priorities

The TD has just been MOTed and taxed so in an attempt to recover some beer tokens it looks like its the 1.9TD thats going to be sacrificed
I can live quite comfortably with the 1.9D as work transport even though its done nearly 200k and in truth has cost me very little (thanks mainly due to the input from this forum :D ) but i cant afford to spend another £100+ on TD at present

So depending on the imminent discussions with SWMBO look out for a 1.9TD 1998 R plate with new head gasket cam/aux belt tensioner/water pump new brake pads/discs 6 new spheres 10 months MOT 4 months tax 132000 miles for a reasonable(ish) £450 once i get the strut top sorted

I could sell the VSX but that is not going to happen :) :)

RANT Over :) :)

I did get the rear brakes overhauled over the weekend and all is well with them now just got to get the fronts done as i think the handbrake is binding a little bit but still trying to source a T55 bit not sure yet if its a star or allen head bit need to check further :) :)

The VSX was given another wash in my attempts to bring the paintwork back to life and the windscreen has been provisionally booked for 23rd may (pay day :) )

The door swap was pencilled in for last weekend but postponed till this saturday but that may need to be put on hold as i need to sort out the n/s strut top on the TD

Quite a momentous occasion today as the VSX actually left the drive where it has been sat since i brought her back for the first time under her own power :D :D
Actually apart from reversing her off the trailer ive not driven her
Front brakes were given an overhaul today and thats the major mechanicals sorted :) :)
All that is left is the door/winder swap and some minor body damage to sort and then its MOT time 8) 8)

Must admit to stalling it a couple of times damn clutch seems so different than the diesels

Managed to find another problem with the 1.9d today lots of diesel leaking from the return pipe but hopefully thats going to be an easy fix
