Xantia Injectors
Same question but put different.I want to buy a socket to replace my injectors but non of the tool manufacturers (or shops) seem to know which one fits the xantia 1.9TD.Popular one seems to be the 24mm Draper but some say (no mate you'll need the one with the cutaway). It seems there is a 22,24,27 and a 28 and also a "slimline 22".???????????Anybody help cos' nobody seems keen to take one from the packet so I can try.Looking at some of em' it looks like they might damage the spill off pipes.

I think they're 24mm. I can confirm later but I'll have to retrieve one from my long-term stash to measure one.
For sure you'll need the socket with the leakoff (spill) cutouts.
I have a specially modified heay open-ended spanner which has served me well in the past.

I'm Going to have to remove my third injector as its leaking out of the top and was wondering if some sort of socket would fit but was also having trouble finding one.I was thinking I'll have to use an open ended spanner as it must be some real special socket with a price to match to get that injector off
Be nice to know or be pointed in the right direction as to where to find the tool without going to the cit stealer (if they do one?)
Regards Steve

You can buy diesel injector sockets at motor factors, halfords etc
In fact anywhere you can buy good quality sockets will have them.
Can't remember size, if Jim doesn't beat me to it I'll dig one out and measure it.
By Num 3 cylinder do you mean 3rd from the timing belt? That seems to blow the washers on all xud9 at some point

Before you remove the injector, just check that the top of the injector body has not worked loose from the bottom. This often happens if an injector pipe union is is loosened without counter-holding the injector. The top off the injector body then unscrews just above the big hex on the lower part of the body. Undoing pipe unions without counter-holding can also uncrew the complete injector from the cylinder head as well.
Injectors are inteneded to be dismantled for servicing and this is where they come apart. I don't recommend you do unless you like dealing with a strong spring and fine shims
Slacken off the union, and using an open-ended spanner, check the top body is tight.
A leaky top might just be a weeping pipe union. They need to be tight but not silly, stupid tight. It's not a weepy leakoff pipe is it?
You might well Elma! Youngest daughters birthday celebrations got in the way of looking at oily bits last evening. She's now a teenager!elma wrote:Can't remember size, if Jim doesn't beat me to it I'll dig one out and measure it.

I concur with uncle buck...it appears to be 27mm,tried a 26mm oe spanner..too small...tried 28mm oe spanner...toooo big.
Citrojim.....thanks very much for the advice...I tried to 'tighten' the top union where the injector pipe fastens to the injecter...I couldnt bl***y budge the dam thing It appears to be leaking just out of the top of the injector pipe union. The leak-off pipe is fine, moved it about(not too much) with the engine running..not leaking.
Looks like (being careful) I'll have to try harder to remove injector pipe some how.
Off hand ...can I obtain new injector pipe seals, believing this is the fundamental problem, from local motor factors or is this a specialist job?
Regards Steve

Sounds to me like you need a new leak off pipe/injector.
Remove the pair of injector pipes from n3 and n4 cylinder and inspect them.
If the leaky one is different to the good one replace.
Check the top of the injectors as well.
Usually they leak from the bottom when the washers wear out, this is what I wrongly assumed was happening to your's.
I don't recall how the pipe seals and I have no Xantia/pipes here so hopefully you will see or someone else can confirm.

Makes sense, rubber seal would probably not seal at that pressure.uncle buck wrote:There isn't a seal between the injector pipe & the injector...its a sort of flange type arrangement.
Sounds like someone might have x threaded your pipe if it's tight but leaking.
I wouldn't take it off w/o making sure there was a spare pipe and injector handy just in case

Elma......Its strange that the leak has appeared now after owning the car and covering 50k miles since.I've not had to touch any injectors at all since owning the car.As you say I'll have to obtain a spare fuel pipe and union from somewhere before attempting a fix.

If you've had the car that long I'm fairly stumped.
This is normally a problem that I sort out on a new car rather than one that appears.
Final suggestion from me is that the teat the leak off pipes push on to could be a little loose.
Again I can't remember exactly how xantia ones are, but I broke one on a ford years ago and it was a £1.00 part which just screwed in, maybe yours is a little loose.
