heater fan

Post by wrinklet1 »

Hi
My fan in the car sometimes doesnt start. car is a xantia 1.9tdsx mk 2.
it has climate control.
Now, i have had the fan out and sprayed silicon to make it smooth running, then it works ok for a few days and then random working. I have also tightened the connections that connect to the fan unit.
Any ideas???
oh, i forgot to say, if i give it a thump it sometimes starts!!!

The usual culprit is the ignition switch that can’t carry the fan current.
On the Mk II, the circuit is modified with a relay to take the high current off the switch.
If giving it a thump helps, the bushes could be binding, or the brushes are worn.
