"took it easy for a long time after that.. put £20 Deisel in at Watford gap, and have done about 150 miles since? but dont remember what they charge.. is this ok economy for mainly 80Mph motorway? I make it £1.00 a litre ish, 4 1/2 gals... "

Seems about right. 1.9TD will return just under 40 mpg if driven at steady 3000 rpm (75 mph actual). So 20 litres should give about 175 miles.

Anbody that gets (or thinks they get) 50 MPG out of a Xantia TD either drives very slowly, or can't add up :? I covered 100k miles in my two over 4.5 years, and they returned a pretty steady 40mpg in mixed driving (not too much town work).

Thanks for that Richard.

I'm currently getting 39mpg on a 70/30 veg/dino mix, half town, half long runs & was getting a bit worried comparing that to others on the site.

I seem to remember I only got 37mpg in my 1st Xantia 1.9TD. That was a company car with fuel paid for so I can't imagine I was too careful with my right foot.
'98 Xantia 1.9TD Tempt 2 Estate.
Had an M reg long ago as co. car & been curious about owning again ever since.
What have I done????

I easily get 150 miles to £15 but i will need to fill the tank up properly and i cant afford to do that, it compares ok to the montego i had which always did 47-48mpg mixed and 53mpg on a run, sometimes more.
