No, the chances of ring/bore damage are negligible. Diesel helps lubricate them but the vast majority comes from the engine oil and in a TD there are oil jets aimed under the piston crowns for cooling purposes so there is never a shortage of oil.
I would though, change the oil at the earliest opportunity just in case any of that "brew" has got past the rings and contaminated the oil. Again, very unlikely but just to be on the safe side..
On the pump and fuel sysems, just keep a sharp eye on it and keep fingrs crossed. I assume you've changed the fuel filter.

I emptied the filter bowl in the first place using the bottom water leak off
drain tap to remove the wonky fuel and then ran a fresh feed in via a
priming bulb into the housing through a new fuel filter.
Good idea to change the oil. Guess I would eventually get round to it after
fixing the big things that still need doing to get the car into daily use. Just
to dampen celebrations on getting the car working again I've definitely
got quite a bad LHM leak at the back near the height corrector area and
the car has lost enough to prevent the system lifting the car much.

i thought volunteering for tests was a pre requisite for xantia ownership some thing along the lines of you dont have to be mad but.......
andrew and jim let me know if you need a replacement fuel gauge sender and pick up unit im sure there is one lying around somewhere in my xantia parts department often refered to as the loft

I agree on the balance of the facts now with hindsight it's obvious why the
car wasn't working properly!
I've been in many a scenario where the easiest recourse of action is the
knee-jerk approach where I blaze into the problem with my heart on my
sleeve and neurotic worse case scenario head telling me the whole thing
is doomed!! Start with a little bit of an unknown quantity, add a steep
learning curve, and intersperse with loooong periods of inactivity dealing
with the problem, and it all starts to appear a bit of a mountain to climb!
On re-reading the previous posts I did query why it smelt like wood polish!
That was at the end of August, so it's taken me almost a whole month to
get to grips with it and actually do some fault finding!!
Mind, in the past month (no BS), I've managed to get 2 cars through new
MOT's, repair the cosmetics of a slightly distressed Activa, replaced a
badly leaking CX GTi turbo heater matrix, fitted 2x sets of different alloys
on various Xantiae, fixed my umpteenth XU water pump and timing belt,
collected another Honda VFR**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] ebay purchase from another far flung
destination with my Pa, rescue a stricken LPG Bx with a fellow Citroen pal,
AND done my regular 9-5, 5 day week job in between too... 8)
I'm sure I've managed to conveniently forget other things in the past few
weeks; it has all been a bit of a blur, as always! No wonder I haven't
managed to look at that VSX td EST until this past afternoon...
So, I SHOULDN'T wonder why I have the odd quirk/problem along the way
then, I actually seem to look for them, rather than them find ME!!
