Sounds much better than A5 down here!
Might pop in there and see if I can get a new mercury switch for my boot door if it turns out I need a new one.
Such a pain when you open the boot and the light doesn't come on!

Soldered and water proofed the ABS lead, just whacked it on the ramps (so much fun with no brakes or power steering) and put the ABS back on the car, you can actually do the whole job from under there, as long as you can get the lead grommets back into there mounts.

Switched the ignition on, and hay presto, the ABS light went out :D

Only thing i cant test at the moment, is if it finds a fault when there is pressure in the brake system.

Oh and that bolt on the rear wheel, i need to get it re-threaded as it goes in and just spins :( (another MOT failure point)

But now i dont have to worry about the ABS, until it rains lol

Fantastic news Ian!

I thought a missing wheel bolt was an MoT warning not a failure?
Cassy was missing one so last time I was at the scrappers I picked one up off the floor.
Worked a treat.

yeah, tried that, but the bloody thing just spins in the hole, so tried the old one, and that does the same, so looks like its going to need re-threading

Got my new pump from the scrappers, what a challenge that was.

Its going to need a bit of work doing to it, will need to transfer over my electrical cable from the old pump to this one, as its been chopped off but there should be enough for me to get some solder on, but its going to be tight.

Jim / Andy, do any of you have any PTFE tape or something else to secure the join with?

Anyway, the pump only cost £10 from the scrappers, so was well happy.

Also, how are we going to secure the inlet and outlet pipes to this, as i see no physical thread on the holes for them?

Also managed to get a spare ABS sensor, as i got the car moved onto another one, i had room to un feed all the cable.

I have ptfe, electrical tape, and heat shrink all at your service :)

I'm sure we'll work out how to connect up the hoses too.

Just a question, but does anyone know why a Xantia ABS sensor is £104 with VAT, and a Pug 406 ABS sensor is only £56? they do the same job, made by the same company, OK they are slightly different, but not by much, just enough to stop you putting it on the car.

Both prices are from Citroen and Peugeot respectively.

Had a look at getting the old pump off today, but ran into a slight problem that may escalate.

I got all 4 bolts loose on the old pump, but couldn't disconnect the inlet and outlet pipes, as i don't have a spanner with in the 19mm to 24mm range, to find out what it needs.

But did notice that the Delphi pumps inlet and outlet threading, is on the pump its self, were as this new pump, the SANDEN one, looks like it needs a separate mounting bracket, that bolts onto the pump, and supplies the inlet and outlet pipes with the thread needed?

If that makes sense.

Wait til Monday Ian, if you're not careful you could give yourself serious frostbite from the a/c gas.

If we can't work out how to connect the pipes to the new compressor on Monday, at least it will give you a fully working aux belt, and we can sort out the a/c later :)

Got in the car this morning, and she fired strait up, it didn't hic up or complain about it or anything, so now know that air was getting in through that injector hose,

Brakes are now very sharp because the ABS is working correctly, and the power steering doesn't feel heavy no more, also the car raised almost as soon as the engine was running, took about 20 seconds to get to the correct height.

Was a fun day, even with the rain lol (funniest part of the day by my reckoning :) )

Yes, there was something strange about 3 of us huddled under my boot door with another 2 in the boot itself pointing and laughing at you sat in your nice dry Xantia... :D
