Excellent ZX there. What a wolf in sheeps clothing. It must be a pleasure to drive.

I fitted a manual boost controller to my Xantia Activa and she used to be amazing. Sold her now, but, I really miss her.

cheers, Kev

Redex and Some Spray stuff that went in the turbo have made no difference to the Anti-pollution fault, think I will have to try having it cleaned properly or getting a new one

Found a garage that will clean the wastegate actuator for about £35-£40. Don't think I have anything to lose but £35-£40. Will post back once it has been in to let you know if it helps. Should be going in next week.

Turbo wastegate cannot be cleaned without remobing turbo due to the large size of the 2.2 (2.0 is fine)
Garage cleaned EGR but the car is no different. Have read somewhere else that on these engines the turbine blades stick and a new turbo is the only way to go.
Will get wedding over with and then see.

OK, so I found a Citroen specialist, and my car went to have the wastegate cleaned to fix the boost pressure too high problem......
and the wastegate is fine. He is now looking into a leak causing the problem. I could almost cry. Think he is going to use some kind of vacum measuring device and the word acuators was mentioned.
At least I haven't had a new turbo first before finding this out.

wheeler wrote: Then again it could just be the turbo electrovalve stuck open.........
Personally I would put money on that being the cause. Its a common enough fault on 2.0 110s, and the principle is basically the same on a 2.2. I'd be inclined to give one a try, they cost about £35.

They're similar to the cold start electrovalve found on Xantia 1.9TDs, which seem to fail regularly enough.

I'v espoken to him, and he has found an electrovalve with very low pressure coming out. Looks like wheeler and Nick are right

Very interesting.

and worth waiting for.

What are the symptoms of a failing electrovalve?

As the electrovalve fails it stops vacuum getting to the wastegate actuator. This prevents the wastegate opening when it should and the resulting excessive boost is detected by the pressure sensor (I think this is the sensor mounted on the intercooler, as mentioned earlier in the thread). To protect the engine from excessive boost, the ECU puts the engine into limp home mode, with the "Antipollution Fault" displayed, and revs limited to about 3k.

It should only affect HDis which have the wastegate (or whatever the 2.2 has instead of a wastegate!) operated by vacuum. The 2.2 & the 2.0 110 bhp do, but the 2.0 90 bhp doesn't.

In a way, I really hope this is the cause, and it's easily fixed.

In another way, I hope it isn't because I'd like to think that a Citroen dealer would know how to deal with something so basic... :?

Maybe I hope for too much.

Dealers never have been able to fix my cars. Had a Saxo that suffered from bad starting and poor running, a C3 that would lose power, and those could not be fixed even after constant vistits. Just really am glad I didin't get the turbo.

I'm waiting with bated breath as I have the same problem.
I've had the particulate filter cleaned and Eolys filled but started to get the top up message which I ignored. Now I get the anti-pollution and filter one which I know are false. Pity they can't have more messages that tell the real picture!
Is there actually a "limp home" message? Mine won't rev at all and sends out clouds of black smoke if I floor it.
I feared it was the turbo but am now hoping it's the electrovalve. I've had it put on a diagnostic machine but it doesn't mention it. Should it?
Cheers,
Bruce
