I also mark the belt and sprockets - and the block as well, in the same positions.
That way it can't be wrong (can it )?

Success! I was offered a tip to use a solid crank pulley from an old 8V XU engine. I had one off an XU5JA and tried it.
In the event, my timing was spot-on.
A perfect timing aid for all of us with the rubber oulleys. Any solid XU pulley should do for this and the scrappies are full of them.
