Hi Gang,

Looking for Peter.N's thread re the replacing of Transistors on the control module.

Drilling and soldering etc .

Cheers

Hi Gang,

I've done my transistors on the heating control module and put it all together and guess what :( . The blower blows at the same rate in any position with the slider. :?

Any thoughts in Citroen land.

Cheers

Kenny
Can you supply a link or a pic for the circuit?

Connect a piece of wire between emitter and base connections of the transistor (if I know what transistor it is, I can tell you what the connections are).
The blower should be off then (except maybe on max).
If not, the transistor is short-circuit, if it does turn off, problem elsewhere.

Have you a meter?

Hi Mark,

Sorry no Pic's or layout but here are the details I can give you.

The original transistors were made by Motorolo No 1829-1 made in Mexico 9813.

As per Peter.N's link a relacement is a Darlington Transistor MJ11015 30 amp PNP?

It has to points which are soldered to the small circuit board.

I believe I have not soldered them on correctly as the transistor is not flush with the the alloy casing as the originals were.

If you wish Pic's I can arrange to get some taken of all the items and psot them on later.

Thanks for the assistance

Hi Kenny
One of these, then:

Hi Mark,
I'm Mike :D

The original transistors were made by Motorolo No 1829-1 made in Mexico 9813.

As per Peter.N's link a relacement is a Darlington Transistor MJ11015 30 amp PNP?

Have you got the link?

It has to points which are soldered to the small circuit board.
What do you mean by "it has to points"? :?:

I believe I have not soldered them on correctly as the transistor is not flush with the the alloy casing as the originals were.

It should sit flat on the heatsink, otherwise it will get too hot. You need to clear out the holes on the two leads on the PCB so it can be bolted in tight.
If you wish Pic's I can arrange to get some taken of all the items and psot them on later.

Both sides of the PCB would be good - we need to know if you have access to a meter, and the details of the mod (Peter's link)
Thanks for the assistance

The transistors are TO3 type, so the two pins are base and emitter and the case is the collector. If you short them together it should switch the transistors off, if it doesn't you possibly have a faulty one.

Was anything else changed, Peter? For Kenny: it's the base and emitter leads that need shorting to turn it off.

Wonder if it just went S/C because it was not in contact with the heatsink, or if there is another fault, maybe the original one?

Never had a Xantia, but if the base was permanently high because of O/C print or something, it will be on full speed permanently.

We'll see wot Kenny sez. :)

Maybe I have been fortunate but replacing the transistors has always worked first time for me. If they are OK, the only other possibiltiy is that the control panel is output is causing them to be switched hard on, I have suspected that with mine, but its always been the transistors. The transistors can be checked in situ with a meter with 'diode test' facility, although one lead may beed to be disconnected from the print.

Hi Peter and Mike,

I think it was my fault when fitting the transistors and I've blown one of them since it has brown heat mark on the base.

As suggested by Mike, I think did not have it protected by the heatsink

I have striped it right down and will take some Pic's and post same plus its been cold now for a week so I bit the bullet and bought one from Citroen fortunately the 'sale' was on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are some new nuber which I will also post in the next couple of days.

Going to keep my original one.

Cheers

Hi Kenny

If the transistors have gone short circuit you can check with an ordinary meter on ohms. without a voltage applied you should get no reading between any of the connections, if you do, both ways round, the transistor is u/s.

Peter.

And it's gonna get even colder - not playing-out weather! The stripes will look good.

Hi Mike and Peter,

Ooops a slip of the typing finger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I meant to say I'll attach the new numbers for the transitors that Citroen are currently using on the module.

I hope this clears everything up

Cheers
