I've seen pictures of others based on car jacks - nice simple cheap reliable pump to base it on - much easier than using a Citroen pump

Just shows the pressure needed in a car jack!

I sold a diesel injector tester on ebay a couple of years ago, it was beautifully made from brass by CAV. I bought it secondhand about 30 years ago, so goodness knows how old it was. It looks as though it could have been converted to a sphere tester - I should have held on to it!

My old sphere tester (covered in dust somwhere) is one that I bought from Pleiades about 20 years ago, this too looks like it started life as a bottle jack, it worked well for years and I dare say that it probabaly would still now, these jacks are only a simple pump.

If you look at the sealy web site and look for a press, you will find an upside down bottle jack used, these things are great, you can develop tons of pressure with a bottle jack.

There was even a do-it-yourself description on the AussieFrogs site showing you how to make your own from an old BX HP pump and a pressure accumulator.
