What were Citroën up to when...

Post by andmcit »

...they stuffed those 4 funny grey plastic boxes held with two beefy torx
screws into the headlining on the estate head lining (level with the middle
of the rear door and the rear windows)?

I ask, as there's wiring in the loom waiting to have a light connected once
their foam insulation is removed BUT I've not seen lights with the same
proportion used anywhere else.

Anyone seen anything else in these spots on an estate?

I noticed these this evening as I'm breaking a P plate SX 16V Estate apart
and this does intrigue me as I could be after extra lights for my identical
spec TD SX estate.

BTW, it's got NOTHING to do with the level of trim as I checked my S plate
mk2 Exclusive 2.0 16v estate which has the same blanks even though it
has every option that was available fitted bar a sunroof...

I does annoy me just how clean and perfect the car is, showing a genuine
60k miles and factory sunroof and when I slip into asking myself why I'm
breaking it I have to go round the front and stare at the bent front chassis legs...

Sad, otherwise it's a minter.

The CX used to have rear passenger reading lamps fitted similar places ...

Had it as standard equipment in my '86 CX22TRS - was rather annoying with 2 teenage girls in the backseats reading their Pony & Barbie books during nighttrips home on weekends.

Hi the grey plastic covers can be fitted with hook plates for a dog guard, I,ve seen one but could'nt wait for the owner to come back to get a better look. john.

Brilliant! Thanks for that - the query seems to have a solution!

It makes sense as an optional extra hook mounting and these are spaced
evenly around the cargo area on all estates that I've seen. I'll look at
digging out the estates brochure I've got.

For the record, the plastic boxes above the rear doors have a wired multiplug
sitting waiting in the headlining behind them although I didn't look at the roof
area further back for the other pair [I'll check it out].

Hi Dave.

Bad news is that I've got designs for the seats for my TD SX
which has identical seats albeit slightly flatter on the sheen of the velour.

Whatever actually happens with either set I've got the feeling I'll need a
good set of seats for the SX R plate series 2 estate that's going to be the
recipient of the engine from the 16v 2.0i breaker. The seats in it aren't top
of the list of things that ned attention at the moment - the previous owner
carried on driving the car after hitting an overturned traffic bollard in the
road in the dark even though the red warning 'STOP' lamp came on...

Turns out it wasn't an LHM leak that he'd been told in the past was OK to
drive the car home with if the steering and brakes still worked! Nope, it
was the oil level reading nothing as the sump took a crack disgorging all
the oil out and consequently seizing the engine!! FCSH with mot & tax, auto
adaptive box and 110k miles with a buy-it-now on ebay for no money...

What would you do!? I nearly spilled my cornflakes in the hurry when I
saw it over breakfast before leaving for work!

I'm not sure what the suede seats are like - must be on the slightly
later P plate on era!?

Durham is a fair way away!! I'll wager there's a whole load of cheap
breakers with good seats along the way between your place and South
Wales!!

steve

no problem, i'll try and find some a bit closer to home but belive it or not most of the breaker yards around here keep saying "we hardly get xantia's in as they are cheap cars to keep on the road and most people keep them running" we are tight up north :D
my car is a 97 2.1td estate, the suede seats were not citroens best idea my next door neighbor had one and sold it after 2 years and said the seats were already looking shabby :)

Hey man, I knae, I'm from up'North meeself!

They're throwing away Xantiae round these parts, including estates
- one had a perfect interior ruined where someone dropped the
unwanted entrails from the engine bay all over it and cleaned their
hands on the seat backs... :x

Guess I could save the next set that become available, though you'd
have to have your holiday down here and leave your suitcases or
bring some roof bars!
