I need to determine which circuit on my 1993 one pipe hydraulic pump with FDV Xantia VSX is drawing demand on the regulator/pump constantly.

The hydraulics are all at sea on this car with incorrect height on the front, fast sinking all round and constant regulator cut-in [even with alternate regulator and NEW sphere].

Before I go and jack the car up onto concrete blocks and faff about undoing returns all round the car on rams and height correctors, does anyone have info that shows which pipes are on which circuit to the LHM reservoir's head with any diagrams from manuals/experience etc? - I'd like to start somewhere and at least the pipes on the reservoir are easy to see and get at - guess I'm geting lazy!

The car's ride is actually OK, though probably not at it's optimum.

Any suggestions, help?

I was hoping that there would perhaps be some info here on the pipes to the tank. I was hoping that by identifying the pipes I could see if there was an excessive return from one of the circuits.
I'm not sure if the accumulator is 'ticking' more than it should or if the sound I'm hearing isn't the pressure regulator at all but something else. I changed the accumulator sphere a few weeks ago. The sound in question is nothing like the sound a BX makes but is that because it's a different pump?

Any ideas please?

I've found an illustration of the return pipes but haven't taken action to use the knowlege to determine anything solid in the way of a diagnosis for my car's problems!!

I'll scan the relevant illustration and post a link up for fellow sufferers!!

It's been interesting too gutting out my 2.0 16v petrol estate as that's shown the routing and diamters etc of the pipes physically in the engine bay! Wish I'd had my camera handy... :oops:

Nice work Andrew. I'm gearing myself up for a clutch job in the next week or so but before then I'd like to find out if the hydraulics are OK, if not the clutch can wait and the money be spent on them instead.

I think it'd help if they had a technical understanding of Citroen hydraulics!

for what it's worth the free online translation:

Conjoncteur / circuit breaker. Dir. mechanical.
Debit assessor. Dir. assisted.
Electrovanne FRONT. Susp. hydractive.

Direction jack.

Corrective of height.
Suspension cylinders. Dir. assisted.
Winnow security.
Conjoncteur / circuit breaker.

Corrective of height.

Doseur of brakes.
Hydraulic block.

Direction Valve.


My mate who can help when he's around is a native frenchman but he's never around!!

Having worked on a machine with hydraulics in France recently, I might be able to help... (had a Babylon version corrected by the French project manager)
1. Main pump vent (feed?)
2. Pressure Regulator Return (Front HA electrovalve?)
3. Steering rack return
4. Height corrector return/FDV
5. Height Correctors
6. Brake Valve/ABS
7. Steering Valve Return
8. Air vent from resevoir

Not sure if this all makes sense, given I don't have a line drawing to cross reference with (of the hydraulic circuit), but it might help...

My problem is that I don’t even know the correct terms in English. :shock:

1 - LHM take-up, ‘sucking’, to high pressure pump.
2 - Fluid return from pressure regulator, flow divider and front electrovalve (solenoid ?), from power steering and hydractive suspension.
3 - Return from steering ram.
4 - Return from height corrector, suspension cylinders, safety valve, pressure regulator and power steering.
5 - Return from height corrector.
6 - Return from brake doser, ‘hydraulic bloc’ and ABS.
7 - Return from steering valve in power steering.
8 - Venting of reservoir to atmosphere. (Also the overflow).
