I bet you can find the seatbelt light in most cars - even in the BX'es and CX'es now for long out of production.
In some parts of the world there MUST be a seatbelt warning telling the driver that a seat is occupied but the belt is not in use.
When I was in the States back in '79 - all cars had a warning buzzer set off if you did not use the seatbelt.
This is made by using 2 sensor switches for each seat :
1 switch is operated by a steelwire under the cushion when there is a person in the seat. Another switch is operated when the seatbelt is drawn out of its spool.
Guess now I have set off some weekend projects ...

In the Xantia the seatbelt warning only works with the drivers seatbelt. Therefore there is no need for a sensor to detect if someone is sitting in the seat as it is assumed there is a driver in the car
By the way the seatbelt warning light on mine is a bit intermitant, but I havn't looked into it to see how it works, except to notice that the switch must be in the centre console catch rather than in the spool.

Surely us 'older' drivers had 'clunk click every trip' drummed into us that much that it feels quite alien to drive without one.

It's probably just faulty, mine is starting to get intermitant too. The light is next to the handbrake warning light in the right hand group of lights.Clogzz wrote:Never seen a seatbelt warning light in my car.
Just went through the owner’s manual, and don’t find anything there either.
Very odd, since it would be the only car that I know of that doesn’t have one.
