new guy :D : Xantia 1.9tdvsx hdi100 exclusive questions
Moderator: RichardW
According to my research i've also heard that only the VSX have Hydractive II. Hence why I want a VSX. Well over here in UK anyway.
And true not all turbo diesels have an intercooler. What about the Peugeot 205 1.8STDT?
Bernie, can you donate your car to me forever??
I'm even considering a 2.0 16v VSX now.

oh thanks for all the replies here,
i agree, not all td's have intercoolers, exmple... Pug 205 1.8td?
Bernie, will u donate ur car to me forever and ever?
Mandrake, thanks for the explanation, i found lots of material off the net, but i gotta give it to you, that was a nice plain english tutorial, greatly appreciated. I know i'd like the ride, but yet, i wanna go in one first, maybe test drive it, and have a fiddle under the bonnet to work things out and have one to compare to another, etc so if anyone is close to anglesey (doubt it), it would be helpful,
i saw 4 xantia's today, one was tatty with faulty suspension (just by looking at it even I could tell), the other out of my price range, the other and automatic and the last one didn't have the engine i want, a 1.6
Greg, sent u a pm, and all others, thanks, will keep checking back here for opinions and other comment (if i'm lucky), nice friendly forum here, loving it

With regard to intercoolers...
All 1.9 TD Xantias have intercoolers, they're front mounted and quite big, nobody generally replaces them because they're big enough for most peoples needs.
1.9 SD Xantias have no intercooler, they were only available in Series II (after the facelift) and were the replacement for the 1.9D (non turbo) after it couldn't meet the new emissions standards.
HDI 90 Xantias have no intercooler where as the HDI 110 has one. Remapping wise these are the only diesels that can have their power boosted electronically (remapping or a box), the 90 generally gets boosted up to 110bhp, and the 110 gets boosted up to 136bhp. I'm not a fan of boosting, chipping or remapping simply because it shortens the life of the engine.
I'm suprised nobody has mentioned this already but if you're after a good buyers guide to the Xantia, try this link, its truly worth its weight in gold.

For my 2 pennies worth. I have had loads of Citroen diesels the last being an XM 2.1 and the present one a 2000 Xantia Exclusive 110 HDI. I realise that the XM was a heavier car, but the HDI knocks the spots of it.
The trip from here to Calais uses about 20% less fuel from a car that has loads more performance. The 30 hundred meters up the steep drive to my house could only be done in 1st gear in the XM but the xantia does it easily in 2nd. Considering that both engines are quoted as having 110bhp, they are like chalk and cheese.
The XM had a much better turning circle though!

the 1.9TD engine , as fitted to the citroen and peugeot series of cars ALL have a an intecooler
either top mounted (zx , 306, 405 etc) or front mouted (xantia , 406, 806, etc)
the 2 litre HDi 90 bhp does NOT have an IC , but the 110 bhp version does.
if any says otherwise then they are wrong.
The ACTIVA , in the UK market was a 2 litre petrol TURBO with constant torque , and whilst not the quickest off the line , will keep up with more powerful cars on the road

I stand by what I said. Perhaps I should have been clear, by TD I mean Citroens "Turbo D" designation.zzf00l wrote: Sorry guys but not ALL Td's have Intercoolers
The next paragraph mentions the "SD". SD is a turbo charged diesel engine, its the low pressure turbo. Its not a "Turbo D" and doesn't get the "Turbo D" designation, hence I call it SD not TD.
Sorry to disagree.... but my brother has a 1994 1.9td Xantia with NO Intercooler and I have personally worked on at least four others without Intercoolers (I think some very early Xants had the 'optional' Intercooler mounted on top.Harlequin wrote:the 1.9TD engine , as fitted to the citroen and peugeot series of cars ALL have a an intecooler
