What make of pump? Is it Bosch?. the others 9name changes every wek) are derivatives of the CAV-Roto-diesel and depend on fuel pressure to operate the governing mechanism - and air in the fuel can cause problems. This does NOT affect the Bosch which has a mechanical system.

You will find that you will probably get the correct answer if you help us. We need some feedback from you as there are a number of possible causes and when contributors ask questions - like what make of pump you have - that there is a very good reason.

Bosch may have the name written on it - and is generally noblier on top with a unit with hoses going to it on the top. Roto-diesel has the cold start cable going to the front and a small switch unit in a rubber bellows (probably split) on the radiator side. Bosch has the cable going to the back (engine side)

Behind the radiator. - 4 metal tubes lead from it to the injectors which are arranged along the cylinder head.

Peter.N. wrote:Those dampers dont generally work after a few k miles, I would try disconnecting it, you wont notice much difference, except it might cure the problem! It doesn't act as a return spring, there is a seperate one round the throttle cable, its just to damp sudden movement, to make acceleration smoother.
I blamed my damper for a sticking accelarator and took it off but then the accelarator kept sticking. It turned out that the plastic liner in the cable was worn through in places and that the cable was frayed too. I still haven't put the damper back on, I probably should ;)
I removed my 'damper' some time ago and found it drives much better (I am quite capable of driving smoothly thank you very much) :D

The Damper was one of a few things mentioned... The strongest thoughts mentioned where for the Pump. I waited to find out more before I tried things. I was also busy !!

So For those of you "smart enough to comment" .... you can have a "Star each to put on your fridge door......
