Post by citroenbx »

I have just accuired a grubby ZX it looks like the interior plastic has never been cleaned....Starting with the Dash and all its inground dirt.

How do i get a realy deep clean on that crodile skin black plastic.
I was thinking of Good old Fairy and a Toothbrush ? Anyone have any tried and test solutions ?

Many Thanks

My son used to use something called 'Armour all', he used it on my XM dashboard and it came up like new.

I'd start with a really good wash with a shampoo or something. You want some form of detergent that isn't going to leave white marks or anything and probably the easiest way is to buy a proprietory one like Decosol.

I wouldn't use a polish until I'd washed it as you will probaly end up simply polishing the dirt in and sealing it.

I refurbish vintage electronic equipment, much of which has a 'leathercloth' finish.
I always use 'Pound Shpo' foaming wheel cleaner - it's a cheaper version of industry standard foam cleanser, and works very well on vinyl, etc.
You can follow the cleaning with a suitable polish if you like - but don't polish the steering wheel =;

Yes, it's good stuff, but as I mentioned the pound tyre foam seems to be identical, and is about a tenth the price (it's a big can!)
