Xantia with no lights

Post by stevenlizuk »

Hello all,
Two problems that may or may not be related that have appeared yesterday.
The keypad immobilizer is dead, but the car starts ok it lights sporadically as you drive (with both leds being illuminated).
I also have no headlamps or tail lamps but the indicators and brake lights function ok.
I have had several feeds and earths rot out on this car in the past so that is my first suspect, but any clues are appreciated.
On a slightly less serious not the alarm has started to go off for no reason at all, sometime s it takes hours and sometimes minutes.
Again any clues are appreciated.
Cheers
Steve

Just went out to car to take a look and now it wont start at all.
The alarm sounded and now the car turns over but will not fire.
I am guessing that the failed keypad has now stopped the fuel.
Can I bypass the keypad or will I need to fit a new one, any idea of cost?

Cheers

Hi Peter,
It's a 97 2.1td.
The one that's a pain in the bum to get parts for and was wired with chocolate.
Cheers

Just on the borderline of having electronic engine management. Good engine though. If it hasn't you can start it by connecting a 12 volt supply to the stop solonoid on the pump, but if its electronic, you wont be able to find one. On the diesel you can bypass the key pad, but I cant remember how. I think that the keypad failure is something to do with the alarm, can you disconnect/immobilise it? Hopefully, someone who knows will pick up on this.

the alarm & the keypad imobiliser are two completely different systems & i doubt that they would affect each other.
if both lights are coming on at the keypad then the chances are the injection ECU is missing a feed or earth,my guess would be a corroded feed wire between the under bonnet fusebox & the double injection relay.you will need a wiring diagram to check the feeds,if this is the case then it is best just to run a new wire.
