What boost pressures have you found? Haynes for ZX TD quotes 0.8 - 0.9 bar for both the garrett and KKK turbochargers.

My Xantia 1.9 TurboD with Bosch pump, KKK K14 turbo and ECU control has a standard boost of 0.8 bar.

I found this out one day when I purchased a boost gauge and tested my boost. It was 0.8 bar max. Haynes said 1 bar so I thought I had a problem of lack of boost. I contacted Citroen and their technical support confirmed that 0.8 bar was standard for my ECU controlled car.

I had it increased to 1.1 bar, by Allard Diesel Sport, which is about 16 psi.

I am told by my Local Citroen man that Xantia prior to ECU control were set at 1 bar. Haynes, for the Xantia, shows 1 bar so thats probably where they got it from.

Yours is the same engine- pre ECU so could be 1 bar standard.

Please bare in mind. I am no expert by any means. I just pick things up as life passes by.

Cheers, Kev

I think standard boost for the 1.9 is around 13PSI, I increased mine to 15PSI and its definitely quicker than standard, some guys are running 18-20, I would but Im scared :)

yeah im running 20psi peak (foot on floor in 4th going up steep hill) but generally it pulls about 18-19psi and indeed it does go like s**t of a shovel. I was concerned about it blowing up (head or conrod) but its been fine for about 6 months and it had a damn good thrashing over xmas when my mates came back from uni so i am fairly confident the engine will survive. - if it was going to explode i rekon it would have over the holiday becuase i pushed it pissing all over my mates focus.

I think you would have a job on damaging these engines provided they are given good anti-freeze (to prevent them from corroding the head gasket) and a strong cooling system generally because the heads are very sensitive to temeperature changes. Mine should be okay because ive flushed it and fitted a new rad after i damaged it fitting a new clutch.
On the subject of con-rod snapping these blocks were used for the hdi's i heard so they must be tough..... - even though mine is pushing out more power than the lower spec hdi engines (arnt they around the 110brake mark?)

cheers

1 bar = 14.5038 lb/sq in
1lb/sq in = 0.068947 bar

So 0.9 bar = 13.05342 lb/sq in
