Hi ,I tried full height at walking pace, the stress of going over a manhole cover was enough to break a rear strut and turn the street green, you only do it once. regards john.

What about the setting between 'normal' and 'high'... my manual refers to this setting as suitable for negotiating rutted fields etc at low speeds!!!!!

My handbook says you use it when towing, to compensate for the nose weight of the trailer/caravan

no way m8, normal height does all conditions "self leveling" even with a caravan on the back ( put it in high position and tow a caravan :o ) you will blow the hydraulics to bits, high is only for emergencies flat tyre/pot holes nothing more

Hi Dave,

You most definately do NOT use any setting other than normal for towing a caravan. The self leveling doesn't need any "help" to get the normal ride height for any amount of weight that a caravan tow hook can apply.

Normally the "ball down" weight of a caravan is only 50 to 100 Kg, and the rear suspension can easily compensate for a boot load of 500Kg on a Xantia.

You can however use the height lever as a convienient way to hitch up the caravan without having to lift it yourself. Just remember to put it back to normal before driving off...

Simon

All the series 1 Xantia's I've seen have 4 height settings, including a 1993, 1994, and 1997 model.
