sorry try these photos

Post by WELSHVIKING »

Hi i need confirmation of what this part is that is broken, i will try to explain this as best as i can. on the passenger side footwell underneath the carpets on the very front of the car there is a round black disc ( approx 3" dia )seems to be attached to the bulkhead. it also seems that it is suppose to be attached to a small black part , i just found out that the 2 parts what i think are supposed to be joined are not they are split and there seems to be drips of water coming from the there. the funny thing is the water seems to be clear i had a quick taste and it does not taste of anti-freeze which my coolant system has in it. Im sorry if this does not seem to make sense but its the first time i have noticed it and i am not 100% sure what part of the car is broken....so HELP !!!!

I havent got a xantia , but years ago on my metro it had a black disc like the one shown in the bulk head , and it was a blanking plate for where the steering column would be on Left hand drive cars .. Could it be this which has cracked and letting in water ..

Its the only idea I can come up with .

It could be the air conditioning condenser drain, as per citronut's post.
When the air con is on, the water must drip out and make a puddle on the ground under the bulkhead on the passenger's side.
If it's blocked, the water will drip inside.

Drain hole

Post by WELSHVIKING »

It seems almost certain it is the air con drain pipe / hole , now all i need to know is how much a big job it is to replace the broken piece and the black disc holder which keeps it in place on the bulkhead...anyone know

i would think if this is what i sudgested it should be ok to just seal it up with may be epoxy resin, but try to dry it out first and then make sure you dont block the water way for its normal route

Hi Malcolm,
Thanks for all your help on this matter, the part has actually cracked and separated from the black disc there must be a 3-6 mm gap so using resin may be difficult. i am ringing around to see if i can get the part but i do not know actually how big the part will be and most importantly how difficult a job it will be....Colin

Just to add the disc is also badly damaged, it looks like the person who had the car before me has had a passenger in who has somehow managed to boot the part and break it......colin

Go to a scrap yard if there's one handy, and practice at their expense !
