C5 problem

Post by silverback »

Hi all.
Anyone had any experience or ideas about a 'clonking sound' that seems to be coming from the back of a C5 when going over bumps?
The sound seems to be coming from the right rear of the car.

I know that diagnosing a sound is almost impossible, but any help would be appreciated.

What year is the C5? Early models (2001, not sure if 2002 too) had noise problems at the rear, i don't recall if it was dependant of the rear axle or a soundproofing problem.
Check the C5-L at yahoo groups, i think this was mentioned a couple of times there.

Thanks for the replies.
The car is my father in laws. He says that the noise has only just appeared.
It occurs when going over rough roads (pot holes etc.) but curiously disapears if someone sits in the back of the car.

One mechanic (not citroen friendly!) says it might be a bush.
I'll check out the recall with the dealer.

Possibly rear seat backrest catches. Try it with seat folded. Catches can rattle if faulty. If the vehicle is still under Citroen warranty, it might be worth trying for a claim. Catches probably about £20-£25 each (see pr-net if you have access!).
