The zx got the 167bhp spec engine in France from 96-98. It had the wheels that later appeared as standard on the Xsara VTS. Stopped selling it here in 1996 and although 3 people have claimed to have owned one, 2 were wrong as proven by photos of their inlet manifolds (which is totally different) and the other wouldnt send me a photo

I thought the ZX was later than 96, I'm sure I've seen 98 R plated ones??
I have pics of a ZX with a Multipoint engine in, sure its a UK car.....
**goes off to check**
Yeh it has a UK plate on, its a R plate too, not sure if its a conversion tho?
I'll post up the reply I got to the V6 conversion in a bit.

aaah cool (Y)
Here is the reply I got to the V6 conversion:
i would not reccomend the v6 conversvion. get yourself either a turbo engine
and spend money on it. or fit a supercharger to a 16v unit.
here is a sample of the work involved in fitting the 406 v6
sUBFRAME: removed gear link bar pivot point. removed material from inner
corners and seam weld. reshaped top rh near steering rack knuckle
DRIVESHAFTS: removed 40mm from centre of both driveshafts, spaced out abs
sensors from hubs.
RADIATOR: vw transporter t4 (too long) excess plastic removed. and bolted to
front panel. large amounts of plastic removed from zx fan, repositioned
centrally, bolted to lower subframe and wedged behind bonnet catch
COOLING HOSES: 30mm silicone top and bottom hoses (4x samco right angles +
2x straight sections). all other hoses made from scrap parts. 406 expansion
tube shortened to exit on left side.
EXPANSION TANK: mounted to left top of bulkhead near suspension turret.
CLUTCH: pedal box re-engineered to fit clutch master cylinder using another
zx brake pedal
GEARBOX: original gearstick removed, floorpan altered to accomodate 406
gearchange.
EXHAUST: complete system fabricated from jetex 2.5" universal parts with
simons centre silencer and magnex back box.
MOUNTS: top mounts made from 10mm mild steel. bottom mount
modified-redrilled mounting hole and material removed from subframe.
POWER STEERING: new pressure pipe made. return pipe made from scrap hoses.
WIRING: new loom made to connect zx vehicle harness to 406 engine harness.
406 harness rewired to use programmable ecu. traction control also spliced
into loom.
extras: bmc air filter with cold air ducted housing. 75bhp wet nitrous
system. cold air ducted through a 4" blower to rear of engine. exhaust heat
containg bandage on downpipes, heat sheathes on gear cables
Can't see anything in that list - other than shortening the drive shafts that could be major major work.
There are a few things on the list I wouldn't have done / seems over the top the rad for example - sure that could be over come with being that drastic.
I would never use the nos, the blower might be OTT.
If I were to do it I think I'd look into a Gti-6 gearbox or a later style auto box with tiptronic. I'd also find the latest ZX I could with either a poped engine for frontal smash (aslong as nothing structual).
Insurance must be scary

Of course there are variations on the 3 litre ZX theme that you could consider
